One killed, two others injured in grenade explosion in Wau

November 24, 2022 (WAU) – A person was killed and two others critically injured in a grenade explosion in Western Bahr el Ghazal State capital, Wau, a police officer confirmed.

The incident occurred at Nyinakok market in Jur River County on Saturday.

Deng Wol, a policeman blamed the incident on a military intelligence soldier.

“A MI [Military Intelligence] soldier from division 5 identified as Akol Madut Akech was fighting in the market. I advised him to stop, but he refused. He unfortunately threw a grenade in the public wounding three of us, himself inclusive,” he explained.

Wol said the injured were rushed to Wau Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Wau Hospital’s Director General, Daniel Thon Mangok confirmed the incident.

“On Saturday, we received three people wounded in Nyinakok. We lost one of them, one is in critical condition and the other in good condition,” he said.

Mangok one of those critically injured were referred for surgery.

In January, an explosion in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state killed two children and injured 30.
