Sudan praises Chinese support in international forums

December 8, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – Abdel Fattah al-Burhan Head of the Sovereign Council praised Chinese support in the international forums and vowed to develop and enhance bilateral cooperation.

Chinese Xi Jinping and al-Burhan met on the sidelines of the first China-Arab States Summit held in Riyadh the capital of Saudi Arabia on Thursday.

“The President of the Sovereign Council expressed Sudan’s appreciation for the Chinese support for the country in all international forums and reiterated Sudan’s support for China in all issues that enhance its unity and preserve its right to defend it,” read a statement released after the meeting in Khartoum.

The statement added that the Chinese leader affirmed his rejection of all external interference in Sudan’s internal affairs and praised “Sudan for achieving peace in the Horn of Africa and South Sudan through its chairmanship of IGAD”.

The Chinese diplomat stated that “pressuring Sudan by cancelling economic aid and debt relief is nothing short of collective punishment, and can lead to serious economic and humanitarian consequences”.
