April 18, 2008 (BOR, Jonglei) – Census officials who threatened boycott to Sudan’s census over “lost of confidence” in the high ranking Bor county’s statistical chiefs starts deploying to counting sites Friday April 18 after successfully filling contract forms and paid 50% of census allowances and much relieved than earlier, enumerators said.
The enumerators, field supervisors and coordinators threatened boycott to carryout the fifth Sudan’s census after the state delayed filling of contract form and paying of an amount they calls “field allowances” before relieved by the South Sudan’s decision to suspend census.
A team of enumerators who reached Pariak (20 miles south of Bor town) told Sudan Tribune by phone that they received unexpected hospitality. “People here are very welcoming and what they want us is to start counting,” John Chol, a census officer said.
North, south and eastern regions of Jonglei state remains peaceful as well and officials in these directions expressed overwhelming welcomes accorded to them.
Over two hundred officials trained to carryout census exercise deploy to the five Payams of Bor County that encompasses Kolnyang, Anyidi, Makuach, Baidit and Jale from south to north of Bor town respectively.
The census officials face impassability of the roads, mosquito bits, heavy rains but insecurity is well checked and backed up by communities willing to be counted is now a minor challenger.
More than 208,000 people are expected to be counted according to Bor County’s commissioner estimates. “Bor county have 208,000 according to 1983 Sudan’s census and any figure below this will be considered inaccurate,” Commissioner Abraham Jok Aring told enumerators before they training last month.
The commissioner emphasized that the population is expected to have doubt many time.
However, significant number of Bor citizens, who took refuge to other parts of Sudan, across to neighboring African countries and as far as USA, Australia, Canada etc, isn’t repatriated back home.
Analysts says this wide spread of Bor citizens has a substantial effect on reaching the expected population. Wealth and power sharing are attached to this year’s national census. An area with higher population is due to boast her government support and obtaining many seats in the legislative council.

Congratulation to our Jonglei administration for its’ swift agreement which they reached with Bor census officials.
This census should not be taken lightly because it will adversely affect our Community later on in the government positions.
I disagree with commissioner Jok Aring by estimating that very small population of 208,000 as the possible Bor population based on 1983 census.
Are we the Bor infertile? Don’t we increase that number through birth?
What about the fact that our people mary more than 10 wives with more than 20 children.
Take for example our neighbour Lou Nuer estimate its’ population on their website to be 1.5 million alone apart from whole Nuer.
Nevertheless we the Bor are assumed to be the second largest in the number of representatives in the government of Jonglei as per the population.
Why then should our number be that smaller than our neighbour’s?
The fact is that the Jonglei government have to explain later on when the Lou Nuer 1.5 million population becomes a reality.
Besides what has the government done to our reduced population during 1991 tribal war?
Bor people being scattered across the world should not be the major excuse.

your happy for nothing,you better not sing like a chickens who doesn’t know when does their time to get slaughter will come.just to say few how about the significant number of Bor citizens, who took refuge to other parts of Sudan such as Equatoria etc, across to neighboring African countries,people be responsible and reasonable.sorry to hear this drum of happiness about this sudden census in South.

Mr.Logic kids accussations make no sense to some ears…..Get it right here that there was time and there is time and there will be time when such problems you have just seen would have end…..but look here,in the history of Bor you chose to say no when there isn,t answer at all….as simple as that….Bor pride lies in South Sudan population not Bor population.

Now we are heading to the census tomorrow and I could see everybody is surprisingly happy and excited, then I want to know why many of you were about to cut me a life, when I supported those who want census to go ahead and criticized Kuol Manyang for opposing counting? Was allowances much more important than national census, now every body show his few teeth because we got allowances?
Is it not deep rooted shame and sign of poor analization of things for those who attacked me few days ago? Everyone should answer himself.
Anyway, let me ask another question, why many of you worry Bor who are in east or west Africa who don’t want to go home all these time? don’t you know those who are in those areas include Australia, USA, Canada have become nationals of those countries ?
Please count those who are purely Sudanese, leave those whom most of them have become alcoholic, drug addicts, and more badly, will end up retiring from Western Factories alone.
Let have census.
