Sudanese President, Ethiopian Prime Minister discuss bilateral relations

KHARTOUM, Feb 28, 2004 (Sudan Tribune) — The Sudanese president, Omar al-Beshir, and Ethiopian Prime Minister, Meles Zenawi, held a meeting today at the Guest House in Khartoum.

Prime Minister Meles Zenawi met the Sudanese president when he made a stopover in Sudan en route home from the African Union’s extraordinary heads of state summit in Sirte, Libya.

The two discussed developed bilateral relations in economic and political domains.

In a news statement, the Sudanese minister of Foreign affairs, Mustafa Osman Ismail, said Al-Beshir and Zenawi resolved to convene in Khartoum a joint ministerial committee meeting within the coming two months.

He further said the two discussed the outcome of the African Union’s extraordinary summit which was recently held in Libya.

The minister indicated the meeting also discussed the peace process in Sudan and Somalia, and the efforts being exerted to establish stability in the region.

Dr Ismail said the meeting directed concerned quarters in the two countries to make a feasibility study of road projects and their implementation. He said meeting stressed the need for holding a meeting between businessmen from both countries to enhance investment projects.

Meanwhile, the Ethiopian prime minister left Khartoum heading for his country. He was seen off by the president of the republic and a number of government officials.
