European Commission delegation visiting Sudan

KHARTOUM, Feb 29, 2004 (SUNA) — The official responsible for human rights, Africa Department, at the European Commission in Brussels is currently visiting Sudan as part of an African tour within the context of EU-African partnership.

The official tends to look into human rights bodies in Sudan, democratic and good governance progress and the role of civil society organizations as part of preparations for the peace stage, said Director of Human Rights Directorate at the Foreign Ministry Ambassador Mubarak Hasan Rahmtallah in a press statement.

He added that the European official affirmed the commission’s readiness to support Sudan in the field of capacity building in the domain of human rights.

The visiting official has met with rapporteur of Human Rights Advisory Council and would meet chairman of Human Rights Committee at the National Assembly, donors, and the Sudanese civil society organizations concerned with human rights.
