Dok succeeds his father as chief of Panyar

June 8, 2008 (RUMBEK) — Panyar Community has announced on Saturday Dok Marial Dongrin as successor his father the late ex-chief Marial Dongrin Rok who died on Monday 19/5/2008 at Rumbek Central County in Rumbek Regional hospital.

The installation of new chief was attended by Lakes state Sudan people liberation movement (SPLM) chairperson, and Lakes State Governor Daniel Awet Akot together with state minister of education and finance minister Philip Marol.

Sub chief, Kuoi Maluac, said that “on behalf of the Panyar Community, we demand Mr. Dok to lead Panyar as chief for four year and if anybody among Panyar feels Dok is not doing enough, then we must to contest with him after four years.”

Awan Guol Riak, deputy governor and minister of local government & law reinforcement agency told the gathering rally in Pacong that “Lakes state local has no objections on Panyar community nomination to fetch Dok as a successor to his father Marial, we will work with him”.

The former Panyar chief Marial Dongrin died after complaining of chest pains.

Born in 1936, he had been elected as chief in 1954. Despite his sickness, Dongrin had been re-installed as chief of Panyar Apin in May this year

In his life, Marial married 14 wives; of whom 1 has since died, 11 are alive while divorced from 2. Marial has left 17 boys and 23 daughters, 75 grandchildren and 3 great-grand children.
