Taha and Salva hold meetings in Juba on Sudan elections, Abyei

June 20, 2008 (JUBA) — The Second Vice-President Ali Osman Taha, arrived today to Juba for talks with the First Vice President Salva Kiir Mayadrit on the elections law, Abyei and relations between the two partners.

The elections law is expected to be the most important issue between the two main members on the national unity government. While the SPLM insists on 50% for the proportional representation the NCP wants 60% for the majority election system.

In the past the National Congress Party threatened to adopt the elections law without consensus to overcome the current impasse. But the SPLM vehemently criticised this attitude saying such move constitute a breach to the Comprehensive peace Agreement

The issue of Abyei is one of the agendas of the two-day meetings. Ahmed Haroun, who is in charge with the file said they are expected to discuss the implementation of 8 June accord and speed up its implementation.

He also said that Juba meeting will discuss particularly the different options of arbitration.

Following Abyei roadmap agreement, the parties started the enforce the security arrangement and deployed their respective troops.

Salva Kiir is expected to deliver — during these meetings –the name of the SPLM candidate for the post of the president of Abyei interim administration.

Pagan Amum, minister of cabinet affair and SPLM Secretary General said the two delegations will work in specialized committees in order to cover the different issues within two days.

The discussion on the election laws and the Abyei issue are special turnung points for the SPLM in the midst of the implementation of the CPA and the push for democratic change and istitutional reformS in the country.
SPLM should remember that we had had several incidences of compromising on issues during the peace talks[ CPA] Specially in the areas of power sharing, oil revenues and most importantly or noticeably the key Ministries.I just believe that, that was and is enough. This time we should not compromise any thing. The NCP must this time succum to SPLM demands.
The election laws must remain as suggested by the SPLM and the Abyei issue must remain as suggested by the SPLM.

    SPLM o yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Mr Salva Kiir Mayadrit please confident on your idea of 50% not to work by NCP obligation if they say no to your opinion, than there is not need for wasting time talking about unity on the media,it should be done frankly on their faces and eyes that we are living for “separation”.hope your having the unity plan in your agener theories.

It is my opportunity to tell the two parties of the SPLM and NCP that the representation for Abyei has to remains 50-50 since it is a disputed area though its belong to the Southern Sudan.

The National Crimes Party of the NCP has not to claim 60% over the SPLM when they are the true destroyers of the people in Abyei. I even suggested that, they (NCP) take 30% because it is of no importance to make killers rulers over the ones they killed. This is lack of Justice in the Sudan.

Please people of Abyei, This is a real time to decide who you are and where you belong. There have been some of you who are monopolized by the Arabs culture and prefers to remain in the North. I hope the recent crises in your area has taught you about who you are and the caring government for your well being.

Mr. Taha. The time for the CPA 50-50 share is soon coming to an end in 2011. Think of where to get resources after 2011 otherwise you will all perish or be back to the Middle East where you came from.

SPLM women, children, young and old are standing on their right to disconnect you from the South by all means.

    South Sudan and SPLM, Oyee.

This is a good move if it is not politically motivated. This time, the SPLM should have a bigger percentage in the adiminstration of Abyei to compensate for the stolen oil in Southern town of Bentiu otherwise there is no power sharing without claiming such.

Wende Mayardit, just be a man about it and we shall watch your actions with the mistaken Arabs in the name of making unity attractive else the other side of the coin serves as an alternative.

Pliz go on with the elections without much delay.

    Uncle Louish, the humble Gent.

It cant be 50/50 because the population in S Sudan is not equal to that as the North you fools !! Its is not 60% for the NCP but for the North of Sudan so how you can argue against that im confused !
The South has already gained extremely generous package, anything more is just greed and wishful thinking. No state or province in any other country in the world has as much as the South has. ‘It isn’t an independent Country YET !
So for once stop thinking of how much the south should gain from all this and think of ways all of Sudan; North, South, East and West can benefit ! Its power & wealth sharing according to distribution of populations and resources.
Again stop thinking NCP and SPLM, when the time comes there will be many parties and people running in these elections. They all want equal say and opportunity to participate.

Ignorance, hatred and greed can be so blinding.

Hon.Salva Kiir, if am not wrong you are the first vice president of the republic of Sudan who must base in Khartoum, but you have been in Juba for quite a long moment,WHY ARE YOU LETTING US DOWN BY LEAVING YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL POWERS/DUTIES TO TAHA? Instead he should obtain orders from you.
    Think about that.
    Thanks.

    WITCH MIJOQUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is like you only know your tukuls’politics other than the national ones.

How do you expect the president of south Sudan to spend much of his time in Kartourm when he has 100% duties in Juba compared with the duties of the vice that are done in the abscence of the president?

You shouldn’t be only big for food but for nation.
