Akobo cattle raid leaves 2 dead, 10 wounded: official

February 4, 2024 (AKOBO) – A least two people were killed and 10 others wounded at a cattle camp in Akobo County on Sunday, a local area official said.

In a statement extended to Sudan Tribune, the Akobo County commissioner Puok Nyang Tutjick said the attack on Thep cattle camp occurred at about 8:00AM local time.

He blamed the attacked on armed Murle youth from the Greater Pibor Area.

“This attack was carried out by Murle armed youth who are still opposing peace between Lou Nuer and Murle communities, those criminal youths from GPAA

made their way, carried our un provocative attack on Lou Nuer in Thep cattle camp,” Puok said in a statement issued on Sunday.

He condemned the attack describing it as a violation of previous peace meetings.

“This attack is in violation of the Inter Communities Governmental Structure (ICGS) Meeting in Ayod and Likuangole counties in November 2-7 and Dec 10-14 2023 respectively and Uno conference that ended three days ago in Likuangole County,” said the commissioner.

Meanwhile Puok called upon the Lou Nuer peace loving community to remain calm and allow your authorities to peacefully address this unfortunate attack, whole urging the government in Greater Pibor Area and county commissioners to push for the immediate withdrawal of the Murle youth from the Lou Nuer territory.
