SPLM’s Amum resigns from South Sudan parliament

August 14, 2008 (JUBA) — The Secretary-General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has resigned from his seat in the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly (SSLA) as a representative of Malakal.

Pagan Amum is giving up his seat because of differences he has with members of the Upper Nile State Legislative Assembly, SSLA speaker James Wani told the lawmakers on Wednesday.

Wani said the resignation resulted from discussions between Amum and state legislators.

The Secretary General said in a letter addressed to the legislators that his move comes as part of reconciliatory dialogue conducted between the SPLM members of Upper Nile Legislative Assembly.
