Sudan’s civil groups launch campaign to address humanitarian crisis
March 24, 2024 (PORT SUDAN) – Sudan’s Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces, known as Tagadum, is taking action to address the worsening humanitarian crisis. On Saturday, they launched a campaign to garner international support and pressure warring parties to allow aid access.
Tagadum leader Abdallah Hamdok described the crisis as “indescribable” and the “largest humanitarian disaster in the world currently.” He emphasized the urgency of international attention, stating that the Sudanese people cannot wait for global recognition.
Hamdok urged all Sudanese to pressure the warring parties for a ceasefire and the unimpeded passage of humanitarian aid. He commended the tireless work of emergency committees, service committees, and various organizations operating under dangerous circumstances.
The campaign aims to mobilize international efforts and Sudanese contributions to end the war and create safe corridors for aid delivery. Tagaddum adopted a comprehensive humanitarian aid paper outlining strategies to mitigate the war’s impact.
Key Points of Tagadum’s Vision
The wording paper endorsed by the coalition provides to coordinate and network humanitarian efforts to provide basic necessities to citizens, prioritizing the displaced, refugees, and those trapped in conflict zones.
They also agreed to advocate for humanitarian corridors in conflict areas and ensure civilian participation in peaceful initiatives to stop the war.
Tagadum proposes strengthening collaboration among aid actors and activists. They also call for increased international funding for Sudanese humanitarian efforts and improved media coverage of the crisis.
