Chinese envoy arrives to Sudan for talks on Darfur

August 29, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — China’s special envoy to Sudan, Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Guijin arrived here Friday for talks with Sudanese officials on Darfur crisis.

Guijin told reporters at the Khartoum International Airport that his visit came “in the framework of continuous consultation and coordination between the two friendly countries.”

The Chinese envoy also said he will make every effort with all Sudanese parties, regional and international levels to find solution to the problem of Darfur.

He disclosed that he would hold talks with Sudanese officials on issues relating to reactivation of the process for realizing peace in Sudan, and Darfur particularly.

The Chinese envoy was received at the airport by Mutrif Sadiq, the undersecretary of the Sudanese Foreign Minister and Li Cheng Wen, the Chinese Ambassador to Sudan.

Sidiq said that Guijin will discuss ways to promote peace in Darfur and speed up the deployment of hybrid forces in Darfur and to create appropriate atmosphere for the return of stability and peace in Darfur.

The Joint African Union- United Nations mediator for peace in Darfur, Djibril Yipene Bassole arrived yesterday to El-Fasher to start his full-time mission. He launched called to end hostilities saying no negotiations could take place in a climate of tension and mistrust.
