April 17, 2024 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s Foreign Minister James Pitia Morgan met with former Sudanese Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok on the sidelines of a donor conference for Sudan in Paris, reaffirming their commitment to work together for peace in brotherly country .

The International Humanitarian Conference for Sudan, co-hosted by France, Germany and the European Union, brought together 58 representatives of donor and neighbouring countries, international and regional organisations and UN special envoy for Sudan.

During the one-day ministerial meeting, discussions focused on critical issues like funding, access to displaced populations, and facilitating humanitarian aid delivery.

Minister Morgan reported productive meetings with government officials, ministers, and French President Emmanuel Macron. He also met with the head of IGAD, the Norwegian special envoy, and the deputy foreign minister.

“My dialogue with Hamdok was particularly significant,” said Morgan. “We addressed pressing issues affecting Sudan, and President Salva Kiir reiterates his unwavering support for peace.” Kiir called for an immediate ceasefire, stating, “Enough is enough. It is time to end the suffering in Sudan.”

Minister Morgan also emphasized the importance of international collaboration and the value of the conference for neighbouring countries to share experiences related to Sudan’s conflict.

“This gathering unites the international community, regional organizations, and Sudan’s neighbours to address this enduring conflict,” he remarked. “It underscores our collective resolve to end the fighting and urges the warring parties to engage in dialogue for a lasting solution.”
