Al-Burhan appoints new member to Sudan’s Sovereign Council
June 13, 2024 (PORT SUDAN) – Sudanese Sovereign Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has appointed Salah Rassas, leader of a splinter faction of the Sudan Liberation Movement – Transitional Council (SLM-TC), as a member of the Council, replacing Hadi Idris.
Last November, al-Burhan removed Hadi Idris from the Council after his organization maintained neutrality in the ongoing conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In a decree issued on May 24th and released Thursday, June 13, al-Burhan stated, “Salaheddin Adam Tour Rassas has been appointed as a member of the Transitional Sovereign Council.”
Earlier this year, Rassas broke away from the SLM-TC and formed a new organization under his leadership following a disagreement over the war that began in April 2023.
Rassas’s group fights alongside the army against the RSF, while Hadi Idris has refused to support either side.
