Death of former Sudanese president

November 2, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — The former Sudanese president, Ahmed Al-Mirghani, died in Egypt’s coastal city of Alexandria on Sunday. He would be buried on Monday.

Mirghani, was the “Chairman of the Council of Sovereignty” of Sudan from May 6, 1986 to June 30, 1989, when the democratically elected government was toppled by an Islamist military coup led by the current President Omar Al-Bashir.

Al-Mirghani was a vice-president of Sudan’s Democratic Unionist Party, and the Khatmiyya brotherhood.

He passed away at the age of 67.

    I would like to send the message of condolency to Al-Mirghani family, the Sudanese people and his party. his death is not a lost for family alone but to the Sudanese people. he had work tirelessly to make sudan a good country may Sudanese people observe that honour and respect, may God bless his family and friends and may God bless him in his new world.
