Kampala to hold conference on Uganda peace process

By James Gatdet Dak

November 2, 2008 (JUBA) – A stakeholders consultative conference to discuss the future of the stalled peace process between the Uganda government and the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) will take place next week in the Ugandan capital, Kampala.

fraizers_in_Juba.jpgIt was announced in a meeting in Juba on Sunday between a high level delegation of the US government led by the Assistant Secretary of States for African Affairs, Dr. Jendayi Frazer and the Government of Southern Sudan’s Vice President, Riek Machar.

Machar, who is also the Chief Mediator of the Uganda peace talks, told the delegation that the Kampala conference would involve the Uganda government, LRA negotiating team, parliamentarians, civil society organizations and donors.

He said a collective decision would be reached in the conference on the way forward.

The LRA leader Joseph Kony has since April this year refused to sign the final text of the agreement which was negotiated between the two parties under the Government of Southern Sudan’s mediation for the last two years.

The LRA leader cited International Criminal Court (ICC) indictments and arrest warrants on him, for serious crimes he allegedly committed, as an obstacle to peace.

The rebels are also reported to have been carrying out child abductions and attacks of villages inside DR Congo, causing massive internal displacement.

Jendayi, who was also accompanied by Bobby Pittman, the Special Assistant to the President for African Affairs, will also meet with President Salva Kiir Mayardit of the Government of Southern Sudan and expected to discuss a wide range of issues on CPA implementation, Darfur peace process as well as bilateral relations between Washington and Juba.

In the meeting with Machar included Paul Mayom, Minister of Internal Affairs, Dr. Samson Kwaje, Minister of Agriculture and Deputy Chief Mediator of the Uganda peace talks, Jemma Kumbu, Governor of Western Equatoria state and Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, Head of Government of Southern Sudan’s Mission to Washington DC.

Be assure that the peace between Lord,s Resistance Army (LRA) and the Ugandian government will not be possible under the mediatorship of Dr Riek Machar because many people have experience the same things when he has signed so- call peace within with Sudan government in the time he has rebell from SPLA.

Also LRA leader was his friend in which he is now trying by any mean to protect him not be charge ICC.

Mediation of the peace has became the source of getting money and it is why UN don,t transffer it to any other country rethan than wasting a large sum of $dollars for nothings and let the SPLA to kick them out from the region as they are now always killing the innocent people of Western Equatoria.

Dear peace lover’s ,I think is ok for the peace mediator to hand over the issue of peasce deal to be supervise by Jendayi rather for the sake of peace in Uganda & Sudan as well because people had loose their interest in Reik’s political lobbying which had actually clearly define him to be as “ theif of politics ”. Not only that, the phenoenon process for peace is really doom which create the vaccum,………z.Therefore ,it’s better to disconnect him from accessing internet till the every thing has been finalizing then he should be reconnect back if say why????? please connect yourself to my line for more explaination………..N
