US election gives historic victory to Obama

November 4, 2008 (WASHINGTON) – Democratic Senator Barack Obama won the American presidential election decisively on Tuesday, defeating Republican rival Senator John McCain.

Obama_supporters.jpgObama, the first African-American to win the presidency, will take office on January 20, 2009, following a record election in which roughly 100 million citizens voted.

Obama, a staunch supporter of sanctions against the current government of Sudan, has co-sponsored six measures to support Sudan divestment, international peacekeeping and a no-fly zone in Darfur.

Obama carried the vote in key toss-up states like Ohio, Iowa, Florida, Virginia, Colorado and New Mexico, states that George W. Bush won in 2004.

In US presidential elections, voters do not elect the president directly, but for each state in which a candidate wins the popular vote, he is awarded a certain number of electoral votes based on the size of the population of the state.

By some early projections, Obama won at least 338 electoral votes and McCain won 155. A candidate must win 270 electoral votes to win the presidency.

Democrats also clinched decisive majorities in both houses of congress. Results are still preliminary.

Senator McCain conceded defeat late Tuesday, saying, “today, I was a candidate for the highest office in the country I love so much, and tonight, I remain her servant.”

Obama and his running-mate Joe Biden have backed forceful measures to protect civilians in Darfur. Obama characterizes the Darfur conflict as genocide and visited refugees from Darfur in eastern Chad in 2006.

Obama wrote in 2005, “when the history of this tragedy is written, nobody will remember how many times officials visited the region or how much humanitarian aid was delivered. They will only remember the death toll.”

Vice President-elect Biden has said that if necessary, the US should work with its allies to “shut down the Janjaweed” if UNAMID deployment is interfered with.

On July 23, 2007, Biden stated, “2,500 American troops, if we do not get the 21,000 UN troops in there, can stop the genocide now.”

The current US president, George W. Bush, opposed but did not veto Sudan divestment legislation, saying that it would interfere with the president’s exclusive constitutional right to conduct foreign policy.

The Bush administration has supported deployment of peacekeepers in Darfur and helped broker the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Sudan.

Critics say that the Bush administration’s attention to implementation of the agreement lapsed and that during the Bush administration the Central Intelligence Agency forged an alliance with Sudanese intelligence services, dooming efforts to bring serious leverage against the Khartoum regime.

Obama’s victory means that in January 2009, the senior leadership will change in the State Department, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Defense Department and the US Agency for International Development, as well as all domestic departments.

Americans have taken a right track by electing H.E. Illinois Senator,MBA the 44th president Barack Obama Jnr and his running mate Joe Biden. I appreciate the citizens of states for their willingness to accept the change we can believe in. I also thank them for ignoring racism which has been persistence in the past. Here come a state where people are not judged by the colour of their skins but by the content of their character. This was said by Martin King Junior in 1963 and it has come to pass after Americans give a chance to afro-american to take the greatest nation through the next quartile term. Waves of excitement cut across the continents of Africa, Australia, Europe and madly in north Americas. This is normal and I think it is healthy.

Young people across the world should recognise the what has happened in the US. They should wake up and say NO to old ways of governance. For we need change we can believe in. Obama has openned young people’s doors.

However, it should be realised by african leaders that transparency in the poll is very important.

this is truely one of those days that people think are only preserve to HOLYWOOD, but as matter of fact it can be officially be declared that it is not. OBAMA is USA first black commander in chief, Yes it is Obama. what this mean to me and the rest of my race( especially Junubin)? is that anybody has and has always been the right to rule any body especially Sudanese arabs, this can not be compared to 7 virgins or automatic Keys to heaven if you die in a JIHAD.This is about respecting HUMAN race as they appear and how to relate to them, let hope that what has happen today will send the rats jumping off the sinking ship of racism or put it Arab ideology if you want.

I have really undestood why America is the world leading democratic nation and the world super power.

I anticipate countries like the great Britain should also do thesame

It is a great news to all black sons and daughters of this planet that the history has finally revealed it self. We have these crooks (Arab)in Sudan who have never dreamt of a black man leading them but today a black man whose roots can be traced in Southern Sudan will be directing them

    CONGRATS USA.

This is a GREAT moment in the History of GREAT America. Change has come to not only America but to the world entirely. Americans are champions of democracy, transparency, intergity, humanity and change. This is exactly what has come to America on this historic day in the person of Obama.
Barack, Congrats for you have made it through.

Mchain, thanks for your patience and willingness to remain part of Obama’s administration. You are a true American who borne the brunt of Vietnam -(America and Rusian silence war)imprisonment for years. You are a hero that Americans know well!

I would like American people to increase this quest of change to be extended to Sudan. A nation divide because of NO CHANGE! It’s Sudan in central Khartoum has to accept change. We either do change in Sudan as SPLM has been out to shape and make this change or allow South Sudanese to secede peacefully.

It is time central government live up to its other peripheries or else leave them to disintergrate as they watch with those uncouth rule of systems for generations memorial!

God bless South Sudan to decide July 2009 to be free people as created by God with their destiny as black race in the world!

Congratulate President Barak Obama, a first elected black and youngest president of the United States of America…
Once Martin Luther King said “Free at Last” and it is “Now” for all
Afro-American descendants of slaves who brought out from Africa some 500 years in history by Atlantic Slave Trade.
YES, Kenya was once before subjected under the Atlantic Slave Trade.
In my knowledge, Tribes of Kikuyu, Kamba, Masai, and includes Luo of Nilotic Tribes has taken out from Port jesus, and Mombasa coastal area present days of Kenya today via Jamaica to
the United States of America by Portugues and British, even from French Slave Traders.
Once started out Kuwame Nkruma of Ghana and then Barak Obama of Kenya finished off the calamity of the Atlantic Slave Trade today and now.
The Atlantic Slave Trade started somewhere coastal line off shore from Mauritania to ends up Kenyan coast of Port Jesus, in near Mombasa Kenya.
Many Africans were sold to Europe and America, from Bantu to Nilotics, price can’t imagine.
Today, I’m proud of you President of America, Barak Obama…
The Atlantic Slave Trade finished, just because of a courageous man like from Kenya step forwards to declare, once Martin Luther King Jr said “Free At Last” and I see it is Now 2008, November.
So, Mr.President I ask, Free IRAQ from America NOW, all black Iraqis are origin of KUSH, Nubians,Kenuzi-Dongola, BLACK IRAQ!, not from East Africa… or Luo Tribe: Thank You! DAVID N.

Huge appreciation goes to American people both Black and White for accepting Barack Obama as their President. There is no wonder United State Of America is a free and fair state. History has eventually written itself.

About our African monsters (Robert Gabriel Mugabe and Mwai Kibaki) can you both hear what has happened in the West? How rewarding it is to be fair and legitimate to the decision taken by Citizens? What can one gain other than being called dictator and corrupt in rigging and intimidating free election? Americans set an example today and I therefore urge our African people to pursue it, comes election again. It was not USA problem to have rigged that election so that they get McCain, but they believe in authenticity of their Citizens and fear of God as well.

Otherwise John McCain is a free man the day he was overpowered. I personally feel sorry about him he is indeed a true American hero I wish he was given a go for one term only.
