Sudanese army advances in Khartoum, gains ground in Omdurman
October 12, 2024 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese army has made significant advances in central and southern Khartoum, military sources said on Saturday, coinciding with a breakthrough near the Signal Corps base in Khartoum North.
Since launching a major offensive on Sept. 26, the army has regained control of several Khartoum, Khartoum North, and Sennar locations, effectively isolating Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fighters in these areas.
“Fierce clashes erupted between the army and the RSF in the Al-Maqrin area of central Khartoum,” the sources said. They said the army advanced in Al-Maqrin, reaching the Friendship Hall and Corinthia Hotel under artillery shelling and air support.
The sources also reported that the Armoured Corps has deployed in large parts of Al-Lamab, Al-Rumaila, and Al-Hamadab neighbourhoods in southern Khartoum, where heavy weapons clashes occurred.
On Friday, the Armored Corps expanded its presence in Al-Lamab, approaching the fortified RSF position at the Al-Rawad towers, which it targeted with artillery and snipers.
The sources said the army shelled RSF positions in the Sports City in southern Khartoum, the initial flashpoint of the war on April 15.
In Khartoum North, the Signal Corps has reportedly taken control of Aboud Gardens and the Bahri government school at the beginning of Al-Ingaz Street, while the Ammunition Corps in Al-Kadru advanced from the north.
The army has also retaken control of the Al-Kadru, Al-Darushab, and Al-Samrab neighbourhoods in northern Khartoum North as part of the military operation launched late last month.
Sources revealed continued army advances in areas west of Al-Harat, Umm Bada, Al-Fatihab, Al-Muraba’at, and south of Al-Shaqla in Omdurman – neighbourhoods controlled by the RSF since the beginning of the conflict.
