Sudan’s White Nile state tightens border security to prevent RSF infiltration
May 24, 2025 (JUDA) – A local official in Sudan’s White Nile state on Saturday called on security agencies to tighten controls on foreigners entering via the Juda border crossing with South Sudan, to prevent infiltration by Rapid Support Forces (RSF) elements.
The RSF controls border points with South Sudan in the Blue Nile region, East Darfur, and West Kordofan states.
Yahia Al-Fadil Ibrahim, executive director of Al-Jabalain locality in White Nile state, visited the Juda crossing on Saturday. He was accompanied by members of the local security committee that he chairs and Southern Sector Commander Major General Omer Al-Sir Ali.
Ibrahim said in a press statement that he “directed the need for thorough and decisive scrutiny of procedures for the entry of foreigners by tracking RSF cells attempting to infiltrate through the Juda border crossing.”
He noted he had received a report from military intelligence, security forces and police regarding procedures for foreign entry.
The UNHCR reported on Wednesday that more than 25,000 refugees from South Sudan had arrived in White Nile state. The agency noted that new arrivals prefer to enter via unofficial points in Al-Maqainis and Um Kweika due to strict screening procedures at the Juda crossing.
During their visit to the crossing, the executive director of Al-Jabalain locality and the Southern Sector Commander inspected the headquarters of the army’s intelligence authority, the General Intelligence Service, and the offices of the Passport and Immigration Police and the Juda Administrative Police.
Ibrahim stated he received a briefing on procedures for the voluntary return of those who fled from Anqasna in Blue Nile to South Darfur.
He described the security agencies as vigilant eyes and trustworthy hands striving to preserve the country’s gains and protect citizens and their property from all internal and external security threats.
The RSF sought to seize White Nile state, succeeding in controlling locations within the state, having advanced from Sennar, Al-Jazirah and Khartoum states.
