Sudan army base hit by Drone; separate strike kills civilians

July 25, 2025 (EL DUEIM, White Nile State) – A suspected paramilitary drone attacked a Sudanese army position in White Nile state on Friday, a military source said, a day after a separate drone strike blamed on the same force killed an unspecified number of civilians.

The military source told Sudan Tribune that a drone belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeted the army’s “Al-Hafra” defensive site, located west of El Dueim, a city approximately 190 km (118 miles) south of Khartoum.

The drone fired several projectiles but caused no casualties among army personnel before being engaged by anti-aircraft defences, the source added. Eyewitnesses in El Dueim reported hearing explosions and anti-aircraft fire on Friday morning.

The attack followed a deadly incident on Thursday, when a drone strike hit civilian vehicles travelling in a region between White Nile and North Kordofan states, according to local sources cited in the same report. The cars were carrying passengers from the Umm Dam Haj Ahmed area to El Dueim.

The RSF, which is fighting the Sudanese army for control of the country, has a significant presence in North Kordofan, which borders White Nile state. The paramilitary group has periodically used drones to attack army-controlled territory.
