Peacekeepers attacked in West Darfur; four wounded

March 9, 2009 — Four peacekeepers were wounded in an ambush in Darfur near El Geneina, leaving one peacekeeper in serious condition as all the wounded were evacuated to a hospital in El Fasher.

The peacekeepers, who are serving with the UN-African Union hybrid operation in Darfur (UNAMID), were returning to their base in El Geneina, a major town in West Darfur used as a military garrison and supply source for Chadian opposition groups.

In recent months, UNAMID patrols have been blocked from entering areas around El Geneina by Sudan Armed Forces and aligned Chadian opposition groups.

UNAMID spokesperson Noureddine Mezni gave few additional details.

Peacekeepers attacked in West Darfur; four wounded
    Hi Fellow southerners????
I would like to tell all southerners that, the four peacekeepers whom were been wounded yesterday in an ambush in Darfur near El Geneina, is unbelievable.

This is happy because the Government of Sudan wants to clear the land of back people of Sudan.

I want to ask the president of Southern Sudan and international community to look at this case. Moreover, I want Omar Sudanese president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir to be arrest and taken to International Criminal Court (ICC) of law so that he may answer for the kill of the innocent people.
