Sudan SPLM inches closer to removing two officials

March 17, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) declared today that two of its members have “departed” from the official line of the southern ex-rebels position paving the way for their expulsion from the movement.

Ghazi Suleiman (left) and Lam Akol (right)
Ghazi Suleiman (left) and Lam Akol (right)
The two members named are former foreign minister Lam Akol and Sudanese parliament member Ghazi Suleiman.

A statement attributed to SPLM spokesperson, Yien Matthew said that Akol and Suleiman no longer represent the views of the movement.

“Some of the figures working with them are desperately trying to undermine the SPLM line and sabotage relations between the partners [SPLM & National Congress Party (NCP)” the statement read.

“This has nothing to do with the SPLM. The national secretariat will undertake appropriate organizational measures and will present it to the upcoming meeting of the political bureau and national liberation council”.

The SPLM statement criticized “few dissenting voices” who managed to move to advanced positions within the movement “they never dreamt of before”.

Both men have recently taken strong positions with regard to the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for Sudanese president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir.

Suleiman was quoted in one of his statements as saying that he will be “in one trench with Salah Gosh [spy chief]” against the ICC if Sudan is subject to aggression.

The pro-government Sudanese Media Center (SMC) published a statement by Akol responding to the announcement.

Akol described the statement by “so called Ben Mathew” as “frail” and voiced anger over the statement being disseminated publicly.

“Since the statement was broadcasted in the media to the public opinion I will consider that it represents the leadership of the SPLM” Akol said.

The former foreign minister said that he will respond “when time comes”.

The SPLM has taken a conservative approach to the issue of the ICC arrest warrant calling on the ruling NCP to cooperate with the court while warning of repercussions on the North-South peace agreement.

    Mr. Reporter,

For your info, the SPLM spokesperson’s correct name is Yien Matthew not Ben as you always call him.

The Dinka-led govt tried very hard to get rid of Dr. Lam Akol since 2005 until they replaced him with Mr. Deng Alor few years later.

They even went further to remove Dr. Riak Machar Teny-Dhurgon from the same govt, but their poor plan failed short after they acknowledged that, the Mighty Naath community would react negatively and South Sudan would have been like Rwanda during SPLM 2nd National Convention.

Lam Akol and Mr Gazi Suliman should learn from Aleu Anyieny & Telar Deng when they attmept to eat the forbiden tree. Where are these men now? They ended up being kicked out of the party and lost their ministerial positions. Today they are bagging their Colleagues to forgive them and to just reinstated them to party forget about ministerial positions.

Why do you want to embarrass your party the SPLM on national matters? Can you see the National Congress Party (NCP) position remain clear accepted by all memebrs even thosw NCP who have different view on ICC or those who view arrest warrant as Bashir’s problem and not a NCP party are now silent. What is the use of spokeperson of a party if someone like you jump up on the bed like a child and voice out sensitive national matters. Your comments indicate that you are somehow against SPLM/A party.

    Dear Kim and other.

I try harder to stay away from your conversation regarding Dr. Lam and other culprit who the SPLM try to remove from their political positions. These gentlemen are honorable members of the moment since the back attacks of Lam and Riak in 1992. However what is happening now is not about Dinka and who is not, but who is playing the interest of our people politically at the moment. The wise man in politic is the sort of Riak who himself stabbed the people of south Sudan at the back and come back to rebuild the damage he cause within the same party. But Lam in the political image is not sounding like the southerners who did the same thing with him. He is not the only person that gone to Khartoum, but his present behaviors has distinguished him and ranks him as the person who had the dreams of failure in the political interest of our people in the south. I do agree with their termination not because they are not dinka since the SPLM is not belonging to Dinka, but because of their political misconducts.

    My words!!!

    Aguthon waa wado

you are right mr. Aguthon, keeping Riek there in that position of Vice is not compromised for peace or threat of naath [Nuer] reacting negatively during SPLM 2 National convention as Kim put it. Southern Sudanese can not be threat of genocide or any form of actions because everybody will taste the fruit of his/her own fate in this world of ICC, And whoever mishave or bridge Movement [SPLM]objective must go from now. we don,t want betrayal people like Dr. Lam Akol or you Kim, Gatwec and Big – Logic- Boy, we will deal with you properly. this is a time of democracy and democarcy is define as decision made by majority over minority and you will suffer under this as you are minority, stupid Naath who love food and money that is why you Kim and Gatwec are follows of Riek Machar and Paulino Matip because of food, you don,t have agricultural land rather than flood ever year and remain starve through out. foooooooolis!!!!!!! let me tell you my colleagues, that’s not the way we should handle our differences, being a tribalistic and emotional suppoter doesnot comes that way you are expressing your anger. if LAM AkOL want to joint BEN LADIN for instance who is gona say no to him? he is a political figure and intellectual he knows what is doing so stopped shirting your selves on what you have nothing to with, those chronic emotions please leave them behind and post comments that can identify you as an intellectual and make the difference to the southerners.Regads

Even if honorable Dr. Lam Akol has gone different way sometime ago, he has proved to restrain himself for the public interest. After he was expelled from the SPLM political bureau, his took low profile and engaged himself with people and communities around him. Dr. Lam has not publically criticized SPLM at all but he just made his point of view within the context of making sure the ICC issue should not be supported in order not to jeopardize CPA. One the other hand, had SPLM removed those who have eaten the south Sudan wealth in Juba from the party??

I think the differences of views should be taken positively and really look into the massive eating of South Sudan wealth by individuals in our bare eyes in Juba!

I am writing from next to the ministries in Juba where we see in day light what is happening.

Leave Dr. Lam Alone in peace he hasn’t eaten people wealth he is just talking politics and politics can change any time. The today’s good guys in politics can be tomorrow’s bad ones!

Let our leaders tackle key economic issues and services to Southern Sudanese. We are still eating tomato and drinking clean water from Uganda 4 years after CPA…. This is what should be discussed. What can we do to have healthy economy by our own?

For your information my tribe is called Southern Sudan …Period!

    Dear friends

People say that when you defeat your enemies by words it is painful than defeat them by war. In this website, people are gambling and there is not single word that can help us find the right solution. Without doubt, Dr.Riek and Dr. Lame are both Southerners and they have legal right to claim anything they are qualified, but people of Southern Sudan would not make history to repeat itself.

Both men had committed crime against humanity in Southern Sudan during the civil war between the Arabs regime and the SPLM/A. When I read most comments, I have found out that some people do not understand or believe what Dr. Riek did against Dinka was painful. It is, but God says forgive your enemies 70.70.

Dinka believes that things of the past should not be preached as victory. Dinka has nothing wrong with Nuer or other tribes in the South. If there are people who think the killings of Dinka in 1991 was fun, then they are deadly wrong.

In addition some of the comments are being deleted because of political reasons or they define the depth of reality. There is a freedom of speech and that is why some people blame Dinka all the time. I understand when the comments are talking about Nuer, they are definitely deleted. I advise those who delete the comments to stop such behaviors.

    Southern Sudanese!!

Let us not encourage internal divisions that are threatening to weaken our movement!! what the getting rid of Lam Akol will bring to SPLM other than internal struggle within the SPLM? The war is not yet over, so let us remain united to prepare for the worse!!!!!!!!

Yien Mathews is a small guy with lot of criminal problems. He is wanted in Khartoum for killing another student at Nelien University. He did not even graduate. He did not go the forest to take up arms. SPLM after CPA found him loitering in Khartoum. By the Dr. Lam joined the struggle, he must have been still shitting on his mother leap somewhere in the jungle of South Sudan. Probably his single mother brought him to Khartoum where he lived in the shanty township surviving only on what his mother brought home from Jallaba homes. There is no need to blame him because he is a miss-brought kid who does respect his elders. However what he said in the press are not his but of fellows behind. Those behind Yien are not Dinka or Nuer politicians. They are Shilluks namely; Pagan Amum, Peter Adwok, Henry Omai, Charles Yor, Othwonh Awer, Miss Abuk wife of Peter Adwok, Joseph Bol Chan and Philip Mayik just to name a few. Some of these guys where behind the incident of Shilluk Kingdom in 2004. They are still after Dr. Lam with the support of Reth.

Dear Son of Mankind(Rami Raan Raan)Mr. Kim Deng.
I agreed with you 100% by the name Mighty Naath. The Dinkas time of stealing Nuerians resources was over when Nuers and we Equatorians burned their homes in 1991.However, what is remain for them, is to cry in the internet like children.Dr. Machar, Dr. Akol and Equatorians officials went back to SPLA to take over the leadership from you garvage Dinkas Bor. The Dinkas of the Bhar EL GhaZell people, are very good people. They have very strong relationship Nuers and Equatorians.Event some of the Dinkas Bor are very good neighbor with Nuers.
The nuers killed you in 1986 in their Blessing Land, because you can not act like wild animals in Nuers Land. the Nuers did not kill Equatorians and other tribes who were acting as human being.
In this World we are living in today, Dinkas Bor will never never defeat Nuers in fight until the end of this world. You can mark my words. The Nuers will always and will be the winer by all means. Then, you the Dinkas Bor will be loser forever.

Ask yourselves my fellows Dinkas Bor. Who got the most conseqenced in 1991 incident?
Nuer or Dinkas? What will happen if you are trying to generate another conflict with Nuers? Don’t you think there will be more serious disadvantage than 1991? Mr. Kim Deng is from Mankind.(Rami Raan Ran)And you Mimama and Dislike Jonkor. You are from (Jang)which is not even in the dictionary. My friends Nuers are super power in the South Sudan right now in every corners.

Finally, we need peace for ourselves and dislike war. We need to like each other as southerners. The South Sudan is belonging to southerners. That is why Dr. Machar is the Vice President and Dr. Kiir Mayardit is the First President of South Sudan. Then, that is why Dinkas Bor are Ministeries of Wildlife and carrying out Foreign Affair position. Well, Dr. Machar will be soon the President of whole country, who know? Only God knows.

My friends we do not want to see southerners killing each others. We want to see you Nuers and Dinkas Bor as friends like before. You are both leaders of the south Sudan.

That is why Dr. Late John Garang led us to the victory of today. He stood up firm for what we went to bush for. He had never changed his mind until he led us to the victory of today. I think the Southerners have to give him a credit for that.He was from Dinka Bors. Dr. John Garang was great leader with magnificent kills.

Therefore, Dr. John Garang was grown up in Nuer Land where he learnt on how to lead other people. That was why his leadership was little bit somehow whatsoever better.
    Thank you all.
