Sudan’s army attacks RSF positions in Nyala, El Fasher

October 2, 2025 (NYALA) – Sudan’s army launched airstrikes on Thursday against positions of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Nyala, South Darfur, and near El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, according to military statements and eyewitnesses.

The strikes follow a drone attack on Wednesday that targeted an RSF training camp near Nyala and the city’s airport, which the RSF uses as a logistics hub.

Eyewitnesses in Nyala told Sudan Tribune they heard explosions and saw smoke rising from RSF-held locations. They said an army drone struck a training centre for RSF fighters near the town of Bulbul, causing large fires.

The army also conducted raids southeast of El Fasher, a day after its 6th Infantry Division announced it had destroyed an RSF supply convoy arriving from Nyala. The division later said it had destroyed a 120-mm mortar platform and several combat vehicles on the city’s outskirts.

On Thursday, the army reported it had killed or captured several RSF fighters who were attempting to infiltrate El Fasher.

Sudan’s army has recently intensified its use of drones in the conflict, targeting wide areas of the Darfur region controlled by the RSF.

Reports from northern Darfur offered conflicting accounts of the strikes. Local sources in the town of Al-Malha said an army drone bombed three sites, resulting in civilian casualties. However, a military source said the raid targeted an RSF supply convoy, destroying an ammunition truck and combat vehicles.

An RSF-allied group, the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS), said in a statement that army drones had attacked a market in the nearby Al-Zurq area, killing and injuring dozens of civilians. The group described the attack as a “crime” and part of a “plan for genocide.”

Al-Zurq, a remote town on the border with Libya and Chad, is a strategic base for the RSF to receive supplies. The town has been the target of previous army airstrikes and briefly changed hands late last year before the RSF recaptured it from an army-allied force.
