Many southern parties still unregistered with national election body

By Isaac Vuni

May 5, 2009 (JUBA) — The chairman of the local government board Hon. David Koak Guok said today that most political parties of South Sudan have resisted fulfilling the requirements of the registrar of the Political Parties Affairs Council in Khartoum.

The Council announced today the closure of registration for the political parties in order to take part in the upcoming elections. The head of the board Mohamed Bushara Dossa said the number of the registered parties so far reached 56 parties.

Yesterday the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement deposited its political party registration form allowing it to run in the upcoming elections.

Formed in November 2008, the Political Parties Affairs Council is comprised of nine members; six are from the National Congress Party and three from Sudan People’s Liberation Movement. Its mandate stems from the national Political Parties Act of 2007, and all of its members are nominated by President Omer Al-Bashir, after consultation within the Presidency.

One of the requirements for recognition as a political party is to hold a founding meeting. The law states “Its founders shall not be less than 500 persons male and female” including from three different states.

Reached by telephone while he is currently in Khartoum, Guok gave an update on the registration status of the other political parties operating in Southern Sudan:

The following parties have been registered: National Congress Party (NCP) led by Field Marshal Omar Hassan el Bashir; Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) headed by Salva Kiir Mayardit, which conducted its second national convention in May 2008; Union of Sudan African Parties (USAP 1 and 2) registered in March 2009 and led by Joseph Ukello; and Southern Sudan Democratic Forum (SSDF) led by Dr. Martin Elias.

The following parties were not registered though they did complete the requisite national convention: United Democratic Front (UDF) which conducted its national convention on February 27, 2009; United Democratic Salvation Front (UDSF) led by Gabriel Changson Chan; and United Democratic Front (UDF) led by Peter Abdrhaman Sule; Sudan African National Union (SANU) which held its second National Convention in Juba after 47 years from April 16-17, 2009.

The following parties are not registered nor did they conduct the requisite national convention: South Sudan Democratic Front (SSDF) led by Gordon Buay; Sudan Labour Party (SLP) led by James Anderia; and Covenant Democratic Party (CDP) led by Benjamin Ochan.

Last month it was reported that the Sudan African National Union (SANU) was denied registration on condition that it change its change name.

In another instance, the Political Parties Affairs Council accepted only provisionally the registration of the United Democratic Front (UDF) on March 26, provided that it replaces the words “separation of South Sudan” in the party statute with “right of self-determination for southern Sudan,” according to the published text of the council’s decision.

Lets forget about those gang parties of dinkas which are not taking any advangates of registering, but how far can they exist in South?, no way gangs has short life this is to you criminal parties of dinkas. To my logic i will judge that if you don’t register, it means your in connection with LRA or killing of each other in jungle states. To undercover parties lik Equatoria Resistent Movement (ERM) there is no need to register because it is just for Equatorians people and its objectives are to work within the boundaries of Equatoria and those lost and mad states. Now i want remind some arrogant like Agustino Deng to understand what is SSDF headed by Elias before he talk rubbish aganist this party, that it was formed eliminate his lost and mad dinkas. SSDF is a well recoganise party in Sudan, Africa and Worldwide as whole. Don’t fool around like a pig playing in the pool. If you don’t register yourself this means your criminal or thieft and this apply to those parties. If Kiir is ignoring these parties behind him he will have to explain. Otheriwise there are just few parties only the registered ones.

LOGIC BOY IS THE CHAIRMAN OF ERM
