SPLM postpones historic 16th May celebration

By James Gatdet Dak

May 16, 2009 (JUBA) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has postponed its historic birthday annual celebration of 16th May to 26th May 2009.

16th May 1983 is the day on which battalion 104 mutined in Bor town under the command of late Kerubino Kwanyin Bol. Another battalion (105) under the command of late William Nyuon Bany also followed suit, and the forces matched to the Ethiopian border where the Movement was established with its headquarters, Bilpam, under the chairmanship of late Dr. John Garang de Mabior.

According to the SPLM Secretary for Administration, Southern Sector, Sophia Pal Gai, the postponment was aimed at giving ample time to the SPLM top leaders who participate in the upcoming conference of Southern Sudan kings and chiefs due to start over the weekend in Bentiu, Unity state.

The celebration will instead be conducted on 26th May in Juba with the participation of the top leadership.

This is where you can see how stupid and naive our leaders are to postpones the 16 May. A National Day can not be postponed because of the conference of chiefs but rather a conference can be postponed. This are the ideas of Riek Machar because he wants to frustrate the celebration of 16 May. If conference is so importance, then why not opened the conference with the celebration of 16 May in order to show people how organized are they? By the way, who is that needs to celebrate the 16 May in order for us to celebrate it with him or them? Believe it or not, peace will not come whenever Riek Machar is allowed to ruin everythings in South. Go ahead make your fake conferences but to no avail.

16th May didn’t just pop up this year, it has been celebrated for many years. therefore, whoever is organising those conferences must have known in advance that 16th May is a national holiday, and we Southerners take it seriously. I’m seriously concern where we’re heading to….

A lot of things need to be outline here. First, on the 16th of May/1983, it was Karibino Kuanyin Bol who mutinied while Buljiec Garang was eating in the barack with the general in command of the Sudan’s army forces stationed in Bor. At this point, what so call SPLA/SPLM wasn’t form yet.

Therefore, to attribute this day to coward Garang would not make much sense at all. Credit must be given to Karibino who put his life in danger in the night of 1983. SPlA/SPLM was not founded until two month later in Bilpam where Nyanye two were displaced and many of them killed including the late Gai Tut from naath community.

This day should not be attribute to SPLA/SPLM but to southern Sudanese who put their lives in danger. On the other the hand, it can be celebrate as the day southern Sudanese stood up for equality and freedom. But, to limit everything to stupid Garang doesn’t make sense.

To my fellow coward Dinkas involved in this these debates refering to Bentiu as Nyegat state. I would advice you to take care for your prostitute Nyadeng first who is out of sight in southern Sudan before taking on my people in the Western Upper Nile. Bentiu is a good example in representing peaceful society compare to other southern Sudanese states.

While most of the states like Jonglei, Lake, and Warrap State were involved in tribal-clan conflicts, Bentiu state was just enjoying peaceful. Now, all the chiefs were call to come to Bentiu and see the example there so that they can go apply that in their Dinka coward land. Thank you Gatmachar for taking the role. Show the bastards how peace can be achieve while the coward bark on the internet.

I’m glad that this stupid so call Garang day is postponed. Let’s deal with real problems first before we go to abstract events.

We people of Southern Sudan in diaspora did not postponed the Historc Day of 16th May. This is a national day of remembering and mourning for our love ones who die during our struggle to defence our sovereign land and to liberate the marginalised people of New Sudan as whole. This day is not coincidence all of us. We should plan for it and avoid certain events which could interrupt this celebration. The organisers of the conference new 16th May day on this day and schedule it purposely. 16th May is only one day event……uh-huh, I have no elaboration its postponement. Let’s not be surprised any way as this has become daily routine.

Dear compatriot let’s not be weakened with this postponment of our Great Day to remember mourn for our fallen heros and heroine. Let’s still remember them as you know on this particular day is day we must come together and leave differences behind and think about them as they have not die in vain. My message to you as a proud citizen of South Sudan is let’s give peace a chance to reign in us.

This my message for 16th May:

On 16th May Day, South Sudan across our nation unite to remember and honour those who have served with distinction in our defence for our country over many decades. We honour them for their sense of duty to our country, their indomitable fighting spirit and for the appalling conditions many have so bravely endured. We especially honour those who have given their lives in service to their country. they ‘ve not die in vain.
Long live Southern Sudan, Long live the marginalise people, Long unity amount us, long live CPA and long live SPLM/A Visions. The strugle is not over.

    Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am very much diappointed to learn that the historic day, 16th May, has been postponed to 26th May. This is unbelievable and in fact very ridiculous.
our vision is just blurred shortly after the hard-won peace barely four years ago. How can we be so forgetful even to the extent of refusing to accommodate our Birthday on our diaries and calendars. Surely, are our leaders sane?

Does it mean that our national events are planned daily or weekly instead of Planning monthly and yearly? Whoever came up with this nasty idea will be judged negatively by the South Sudan history. And may God forgive those who planned the postponement of this Day for they do not know what they are doing.

IF this is true, some body was so stupid to set the conference of Southern Sudan kings and chiefs on this Historical day.

Everything else would have been postponed but not this day. Or else, somebody is playing tricks.

It is true that Salva Kiir Miyardit and Fake Dr Riak Machar Teny, plus the other associates Ministers in the Parliament are tending down the whole Southern Sudanese visions and at the same time, they are abusing the system of the Southern Sudan government. Despite the facts that, a real government can not postphone a National Holiday by which everybody have to commemorate the fallen Heroes of our belove country.

I do really blame Salva Kiir Miyardit to an extend that he is not seriously care about the fallen heroes of Southern Sudan. In addition, I really proved that Salva Kiir Miyardit is really feeble and he is not going to stand firm with the forth-coming Election. How come that he makes a decision of extending 16 May? Salva Kiir Miyardit was amongst those of the SPLM/SPLA founders namely: John Garang, Kerubino Kuanyin Bol, William Nyuon Bany, Arok Thon Arok and so forth. So in this case, why Salva Kiir Miyardit act like he doesn’t know anything about the Movement and a lot of people lose their life through this formation of the SPLM/SPLA?

What do the meeting of the Top commanders which will be done in Unity State of Southern Sudan has to do with 16TH May? Second, why is meeting transfered to Unity State of Southern Sudan and not Juba where the headquarter of the SPLM/SPLA is suitated? Salva Kiir Miyardit need to sharpen his brain very precisely, otherwise those who relied on him should see their own way of living rather than hoping on Salva Kiir Miyardit that he is going to bring a good innovation into our Southern Sudan. 16th May is very important and important than anything else, therefore, Salva Kiir Miyardit should not attempt to ignore this National Holidy like the way he subside down other important things. I think there is something wrong with Salva Kiir Miyardit and Riak Machar Teny. Do Riak Machar Teny and Salva Kiir Miyardit advised themselves really?
