RSF strike on El Obeid hospital injures 12, including medical staff

March 2, 2026 (EL OBEID) – Twelve people, including five medical staff, were injured when Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeted the British Hospital in El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, at dawn on Monday, the Sudan Doctors Network said.

The network described the attack as a serious violation of international humanitarian law.

On Feb. 28, at least nine people were killed and others injured in an RSF drone strike on El Obeid that destroyed consumer goods warehouses and an oil production factory, according to local sources.

El Obeid has faced a complex humanitarian situation since war broke out between the Sudanese army and the RSF in April 2023. The city hosts large numbers of displaced people from Darfur and Kordofan who rely on a few functioning health facilities for basic medical services.

The network said in a statement that the injured staff were performing their professional duties inside the British Hospital when it was hit. Some cases were described as critical.

The group condemned the attack “in the strongest terms,” calling it a blatant assault on civilian and medical facilities that serve a broad sector of citizens. It added that targeting health facilities endangers patients’ and medical staff’s lives and undermines humanitarian efforts.

The statement warned that repeated attacks on medical facilities represent a dangerous development that could lead to the cessation of health services in El Obeid, which serves more than one million displaced people.

The Sudan Doctors Network called on the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to take urgent action to ensure full protection for medical facilities and personnel, and to pressure RSF leadership to stop targeting civilian and medical infrastructure.
