Gen. Paulino Matip appeals to support SPLA

By James Gatdet Dak

May 24, 2009 (JUBA) – The Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), Lt. Gen. Paulino Matip Nhial, said the SPLA is the people’s army to protect peace and defend the territorial integrity of Southern Sudan.

Matip, who returned to Juba from the United States of America on Saturday after nine months of medical treatment in the US since August last year, appealed to the citizens of Southern Sudan to support and cooperate with the SPLA in maintaining security in the region.

In a welcome ceremony organized at his Juba residence which was attended by a number of senior government officials, military officers and hundreds of citizens, Gen. Paulino Matip urged the people of Southern Sudan to remove tribalism from their mindset and unite to face any challenges ahead towards referendum.

“If the talks about tribalism are true that the Shilluk recognize only Shilluk, Dinka recognize only Dinka, Nuer recognize only Nuer, or Equatorians recognize only Equatorians and so on, then this is not acceptable,” he said.

Gen. Matip warned that the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) may be heading towards uncertainties that need our unity as a people with common cause and destiny.

The SPLA Deputy Commander-in-Chief, who suffered from diabetes but looked stronger after his medical care in the US, cut short his speech saying he had no more to say because he had not yet met with his Commander-in-Chief and President of the Government Southern Sudan, 1st Lt. General Salva Kiir Mayardit, who was still participating in the seven-day kings and chiefs conference in Bentiu, Unity state.

In another news development, the SPLM/A is due to celebrate its 26th anniversary on Tuesday next week on 26th May, 2009 in Juba, the capital of the semi-autonomous region.

    hallo Matip,

South Sudane needs unity and brotherhood but the enemy of the South Riek Machar is always undermine the people’s hard work peace. you need to tell Riek to change his collaborative activities as you did change your with Bashir after you joined the SPLA IN 2005. Riek is using even the Ngundeng rod he believe it may get him top leadership which he never work for it. man who stabbed the movement at the back in 1991 while committed war crime against Southerners in which his now claiming to lead them. Women yesterday in Juba appointed their fingers to Riek Machar by saying those who collaborated with Arab and murdered up to 300 educated in Juba in 1992-1993 are still active in Juba and being given top government, this referred to Riek and his men, who did that and the don’t even want to change. please tell you people Nuer time for traitors is over and time for collaborators are all over. come back and the heros for their freedom you betrayed for long. by Ngwerajak

This is a sad news indeed!! Matip should had endorsed either (UDSF) or other Nuers parties. We all know what happen to Southerners under Kiir’s Dinka leadership. It is time to test Nuers leadership since Nuers are now more than Dinkas. It is very sad that Poulin Matip lose his mind completelly!!

I am pleased to read more comprehensive direction Gen. Matip has taken. Thumb up sir, It needs a baptism of courage and steadiness to deplore the walking disease call tribalism and its ilks. The nation should take precedent to ’the small cocoon or tribes’ as we call them. It is not worth the price of 21 years of liberation struggle.

Sir, you have to instill the spirit of comradeship into the SPLA since it is the only guarantor of a secured South Sudan. Long Live SPLA! LONG LIVE the UNITY of Southerners.

’SOUTHERNERS SHOULD LEARN HOW TO LIVE TOGETHER AS BROTHERS,OR PERISH SEPARATELY AS FOOLS…

I can appreciate Lt.Gen. Paulino Matip for his statement if he’s sincerely in his point of unity. South Sudan has been suffering of corruption, tribelism, tribe conflict due to wrong politician sent by NCP to south to implement wrong advice into people mind in the south like in Murle pibor. If Murle are not misleading by NCP due to money, who come to fight SPLA military in their land while those military were located to provide protection to them but the change to be against their troops. I belive in unity toward the opponent of southerners if we have good understanding and avoid of killing each other. SPLA Oyee, New Sudan Oyee.

    Hey Guy’s SPLM/A IS Now a Dock!!!!

during the lebration there no difference in the movement and all people in southern sudan had join their hands to fight for the common interest of south with no obligation of race, color, religion, tribe and sub-clan only SPLA/M the mother for the nation in the entirely country.

Since then what so call division among southern are not been experience therein, but what bring this is the self-interest of big share from Government of NCP led by Crimanal Bashir and of course some those have been participated to maneuver their way to the top but they had failed properly.

Nontheless,to get ahead for peace across southern sudan Mr Kiir have to step down and give chance to other’s to lead the rest people to the promise land whcih people of southern sudan are early to see soon after 19 months to come let young guy’s of southern get this opportunity lead we are tie of corruption and misleading of Kirr’s Governceship!!!!

    Hey General Paulino Matiip Nhial,

Thank you so much for your speech!. I do feels that there is a sound of leadership in you. Mr Paulino Matiip Nhial, if our Southerners leaders talk with such encouragement as you reveal today, then I hope our people should come together and do the same things without tending down one another heritage. This is what I complain all the times that we need someone or a leader in Southern Sudan who can work day, evening and night for the seek of his people, but not someone who just only support useless things and assumed himself that he is trying to do the right thing.

We need a leader in Southern Sudan who will stand firm and not diverting his mind from time to time. Paulino Matiip Nhial, it is better for you to show this example to some of the other leaders in Southern Sudan whose minds are just been occupied by reckless idealogies which make no senses at all. To my fellow Nuer brothers such as Gatwech and Nuer plus other Nuer people who used to motivate tribalism in this website, I wants to tell you that what some of the other Dinkas people are complaining about leadership is not because that Nuer people should not rule, but if you relied on someone who can make no sense like Dr Riak Machar Teny, then it will not be possible. Appointing Dr Riak Machar Teny, to be a President of Southern Sudan is better than leaving Omar Hassein Bashir and Muhammed Taha to be our leaders in Southern Sudan. Ask me why!?. Paulino Matiip Nhial, if you think that there is a way you can help Southern Sudanese to United themselves, then please make it possible. People are really tired looking for freedom and a real leader who can managed and see the fate which demote the Southern Sudanese from getting freedom. Paulino Matiip Nhial, I hope Almighty God will strengthen your life until you achieved your goal. I do know that you was been excluded from the Movement since 1984 when you was in Thaarkuer county of Bull-Nuer, but even if people still carried some rifes in their hearts, then you are the right person who can be pardon because your point of separation from the Movement is well known and very realistic. SPLM/SPLA is not for Dinkas like what other people use to said it so, but for anyone like you Paulino Matiip Nhial who have inspiration of Uniting people of the whole Southern Sudanese into one umbrella. Go a head and God will be with you all the times.

I do know that in Nuer Communities, there are leaders who can rule Southern Sudan very positively and without problem, but Dr Riak Machar Teny, “BIG NO and NO”. I do need a righteous leader who can lead without betraying his people heritages no matter of what tribe he belong to, but someone who can carry the cross of life for the seek to free his people. If such kind of leader come from Dinkas Communities, Nuer Communities, Equatorian Communities, Shilluk Communities and many other Communities so far in Southern Sudan, then I have to stand with him. I can not advocated someone who is trying to jeopardize my life to death like what Dr Riak Machar Teny did. Lastly, Mr NGWERAJAK, I’m really happy with your comment and that is a kind of thing I need. You can not fear to tell your right of speech. Be flexible and optimistic!!!. In fact, Southern Sudan don’t need someone who is a trouble maker. Anyone feel antagonized about what I wrote, please I encouraged you indeed to feel free and quote me back as soon as possible. For your information, make sure that you “digested” my comment properly.

    Thank you so much

Yes he has spoken, but can he makes change, i like him just of his briefness, let him use command to stop that death in Jongle State not like Clement Wani who is putting his own speaking Tribes to fight each other. Both of them were pro-Government Militia chiefs in Command.

Mr. Matip good to try about unity but the time for supporting bending government led by greedy Dinka had expired, it is now time to try another leadership.
