Sudan oil production to reach 922,000 bpd in 2013- official

July 14, 2009 (LONDON) — Sudan would increase its crude oil output by 400,000 barrels a day within three to four years thanks to improved oil-extraction technique, said Sudan’s state oil firm (Sudapet) today.

The Sudan oil production would raise to 922,000 barrels a day in 2012 or 2013, according to Sudapet president Salah Hassan Wahbi. If reached, this output would put Sudan’s production close to the Algerian or the Libyan output.

“if we successfully (use enhanced oil recovery), then we can increase production” to 922,000 barrels, from a current output of 522,000 barrels a day, said Wahbi in a speech at a Global Pacific and Partners oil conference on Tuesday.

“That’s what we are working on” using techniques such as water injection in wells, he further said.

By the end of 2008, Sudan had set its oil production target for 2009 at 600,000 barrels per day (bpd), an increase of 20 percent from 500,000 bpd in 2008.

Regarding the upgrade of production at Sudan’s Block 6 by 20,000 barrels a day, Wahbi said it is most likely to be in the first quarter of 2011, instead of 2010, due to the complexity of the engineering. Block 6 which located in Melut Basin in Western Kordofan, is operated by China National Petroleum Corp.

In accordance with a peace deal signed in 2005, southern Sudan, which has a semi-autonomous government now, will vote in 2011 on whither to remain united with the rest of the country or to establish its own independent state.

With regard to Sudapet relationship with Southern Sudan Nilepet, the Sudanese official expressed hopes the country would remain united. However he said if southerners vote for the independence Nilepet would be southern Sudan national company.

He also said they undertook the training of Nilepet staff.

Sudan oil production to reach 922,000 bpd in 2013- official
    Dear Mr. Salah Hassan Wahbi,
The Sudanese populace in every periphery of our great country would bend down and appreciate the fact that their oil resource is reaching milestone where such large production will benefit the development of their homeland in general and southern region where over 90% of the oil wells are located, if this resource was to be utilize with open heart and accountability. However, what baffled me and the rest of Sudanese people who want nothing but the truth is for you to uttered lie like the late President Numeiry who went ahead with demarcation of his new map of the north by taking Melut from Upper Nile region of Southern Sudan into Northern Kordofan. I see nothing wrong to say that Melut is from Southern Sudan and that the oil is being drill to aid in the development of the whole Sudan. Your bizarre claim is nothing short of prudential motives and must not go unchallenged by Southern Sudan intellectuals wherever they are! But it is worth mentioning the north has once again shows its arrogant way of cultivating lies and destroying historical facts only to further interests on the expense of the south. The position that you have taken today speaks volume and shows how few elements in the north always want to deny the existence of oil in Southern Sudan shores. Why not saying that the oil is Southern Sudan and it belongs to Sudanese all regardless of whether your region produces nothing or rich in oil deposits at all. It is very clear from the position you have taken today, the entire north must be a genetically flawed, brainchild of lies or that they must be suffering from charity of thought, lack of logic and above all intellectual honesty. The failure to recognized geographical location of Melut as to where it is located means that the entire north must have never gone to school of thought and geography. If Southerners vote for their independence, we are not yearning for north to extend their callous hands to us and our brothers in African world are ready to receive us with open arms if need be. Gone are the days when few criminals woke in the middle of night and went to radio Omdurman, thanks to the document called CPA. No soldier or self-appointed groups of theives and thugs will wake up and overthrow the government anymore.
