Hemetti vows to capture Khartoum following army gains in North Kordofan

July 30, 2026 (NYALA) – Rapid Support Forces commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemetti, has threatened to reach Khartoum following recent military gains by the Sudanese army in North Kordofan state.

The army and its allies launched an operation this week, securing control over Bara, Jabrat al-Sheikh, Um Siala, and key points along the export road connecting Omdurman to North Kordofan.

Addressing a gathering of his forces at an undisclosed location, Hemetti told his troops to prepare for a push toward the capital, declaring that Khartoum remains their ultimate target.

He urged his forces to maintain resolve and expressed gratitude to the fighters supporting the paramilitary group since conflict broke out on April 15, 2023.

The RSF has relied heavily on tribal leaders to recruit fighters alongside formal training operations in Nyala led by army defector Osman Bilo, as well as foreign mercenaries.

Hemetti emphasized the presence of trained officers within his ranks, instructing that they should be formally recognized rather than dismissed as trainees or field commanders.

His remarks followed a meeting with the “Tasis” coalition, which serves as the political and civil wing aligned with the paramilitary force.

Coalition spokesman Ahmed Tugod Laman stated on Wednesday that the army’s offensive on coalition-controlled territory undermines international de-escalation efforts.

He added that the army’s advances give coalition forces the right to resume full military hostilities.

The army’s control over Bara and Jabrat al-Sheikh grants it a tactical advantage toward North Darfur while neutralizing potential RSF ground assaults toward Khartoum and El Obeid.
