At least 37 killed in drone strike on North Darfur court, sources say
August 2, 2026 (GHURRA ZAWIA) – A drone strike on a local customary court in North Darfur killed at least 37 people and injured dozens on Sunday, an eyewitness told Sudan Tribune.
The attack in the Ghurra Zawia area of Kabkabiya locality comes amid intensified Sudanese army drone operations in Darfur targeting Rapid Support Forces (RSF) positions to weaken the paramilitary group following recent defeats in North Kordofan.
A drone fired about four missiles at the court building while local leaders were holding a meeting, killing 37 people and wounding roughly 40 others, an eyewitness said.
The dead included RSF field commanders, tribal elders, and traditional leaders from the Mahameed branch of the Rizeigat tribe, the witness added.
The RSF-dominated Sudan Founding Coalition (Tasis) blamed the Sudanese army for the strike, saying it killed 40 civilians.
Tasis spokesperson Ahmed Tugod Lisan called for an urgent independent investigation to hold those responsible accountable and bring them to trial.
Lisan urged the international community and rights organizations to act firmly to stop repeated strikes and protect civilians.
