October 3, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – Sudanese security authorities have disposed of more than 12,000 unexploded shells and collected thousands of wrecked vehicles across Khartoum State, the interior ministry said on Saturday, as part of an effort to restore order in the capital.

Interior Minister Babikir Samra Mustafa chaired a high-level security meeting to review the redeployment of military formations outside the city and assess unexploded ordnance clearance across residential areas, according to a police statement.

Gen. Abdel Khair Abdallah Nasser, who heads the committee overseeing weapons collection and the withdrawal of military units, said coordination with armed units to vacate the capital was complete.

The committee tasked with removing debris said it had recently impounded 774 wrecked vehicles, bringing the total cleared from Khartoum’s roads to 19,006.

Bomb-disposal teams responded to more than 5,200 civilian emergency calls, safely dismantling and disposing of 12,668 artillery shells and pieces of live ammunition left behind by fighting between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.

Authorities also deported 152 undocumented foreign nationals and transferred 278 human trafficking survivors to humanitarian facilities ahead of their relocation to camps, the ministry added.
