Suspected RSF drone strikes kill four civilians in Sudan's Ed Damazin

ED DAMAZIN, Sudan, Oct 7 (Reuters) – Suspected paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) drone strikes killed at least four civilians and struck homes belonging to regional cabinet ministers in the southeastern Sudanese city of Ed Damazin on Wednesday, local sources said.

The dawn attack hit residential quarters in the al-Hijra district and damaged residences belonging to the Blue Nile region’s finance and information ministers, marking an escalation in long-range strikes against government-held urban centers.

It followed an attack days earlier that struck the private residence of Blue Nile Governor Ahmed al-Omda, as well as previous strikes that hit fuel distribution depots and municipal infrastructure across the regional capital.

The Sudanese military-led government has accused neighboring Ethiopia of permitting cross-border drone incursions into Blue Nile, a charge Addis Ababa denies.

Southeastern Sudan re-emerged as an active warfront in January as the Sudanese army battled an alliance comprising the RSF and fighters from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N).

The allied rebel forces seized the border towns of Kurmuk and Geissan earlier this year, pressing government forces along the Ethiopian frontier.
