SPLM-N shelling kills mother and three children in Sudan’s Kadugli, medics say
October 10, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – Artillery shelling by a Sudanese rebel group killed a mother and her three children in the South Kordofan capital of Kadugli on Saturday, an independent medical group said.
The Sudanese Doctors Network said the casualties occurred when shells fired by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) struck a residential district inside the city.
A spokesperson for the SPLM-N faction led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu was not immediately reachable for comment.
Sudan Tribune could not independently verify the civilian casualty reports.
Although the Sudanese army broke a protracted siege around Kadugli earlier this year, the rebel movement and the allied paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have continued to launch drone and artillery strikes against the city and incoming humanitarian aid convoys.
The medical network condemned the attack as a violation of international humanitarian law, warning that indiscriminate shelling inside urban areas exacerbates the humanitarian emergency facing residents.
The war between the Sudanese army and the RSF broke out in April 2023, drawing in regional rebel factions and driving millions of people from their homes amid worsening famine conditions and widespread attacks on civilian infrastructure.
