Mr. Adada, who had been the foreign minister of the Republic of Congo, on May 8, 2007 was named Joint Special Representative of the United Nations and the African Union for Darfur, in which capacity he is in charge of the hybrid peacekeeping mission there.

In a letter sent to the UN Secretary General on July 30 Adada, informed Ki-Moon of his intention to conclude his service as Joint Special Representative on August 31.

The JSR observed that the security situation in Darfur has improved and that the deployment of troops is on track.

Ban Ki-Moon, in his acceptance letter, conveyed his appreciation for the dedication of the JSR to the hybrid AU-UN operations in Darfur.

“You have led UNAMID with distinction during its most challenging initial deployment phase and in an environment of unprecedented difficulty,” said the UN chief.

UNAMID, which at full strength will have almost 20,000 troops, more than 6,000 police civilian personnel, is the first joint African Union – UN mission; it is also the largest UN peacekeeping operation. Its budget of $1.7 billion for the fiscal year 2008-2009 is the largest of UN peacekeeping operations.

During its first year the mission had to reassure the Sudanese authorities who were very suspicious towards this hybrid mission and to build confidence with Darfur displaced population who had been deceived by the predominant African character of the force after three years of a weak African Union Mission in Sudan.

The outgoing head of mission on Monday travelled to Nyala, south Darfur, to take leave of UNAMID personnel in Sector South, before returning to El-Fasher, later for a farewell meeting with North Darfur State Governor.

During two days from 25-26, the outgoing chief will tour the different towns in Darfur province to meet UNAMID personnel and take leave of them.

On Thursday 27 and Friday 28 August 2009, the out-going JSR will be in Khartoum to take leave of Sudanese officials, Heads of UN missions (UNMIS, UNCT, JMST, TDRA) and Heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Sudan.

On Saturday 29 August 2009, he will be hosted to a farewell dinner at the Egyptian Engineering Company, in El Fasher.

On Sunday 30 August 2009, Mr. Adada will inspect a guard of honour, before his departure for Addis Ababa.

    Adada quits Darfur peacekeeping mission
Why Mr. Rodolphe Adada Quit his operation as Joint special representative for UN Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur? He stated that the security situation in Darfur is normal, why still that there are IDP refugees still dying in the camps. If the work become too hot in your hand please, state?

I can personally agree with you, if you stated that there is a threat toward your life and Peacekeeping mission troops in Darfur in Internal displaced persons (IDP) Camps. Therefore, you have your right to quit under no obligation what so ever. Because it’s was you who devoted your service to the suffering people of Darfur.

When its comes to approaching Darfur rebels and Khartoum government to normalize hostility in darfur and resorts to peace, I know it is frustrating one because Khartoum government is the worse government to deal with you on the face of the earth.

Thanks you Mr. Adada for protecting lives of Darfurain during your Mission in Darfur especially in IDP camps. May almighty God reward you for the vulnerable lives of Darfurain that you rescued from the hand of the devils, and may he protected you on all your paths. Amen !!!

    Wishing you good luck Mr.Adada.
