Darfur Conference Committee praises ceasefire agreement in western Sudan

KHARTOUM, April 10, 2004 (SUNA) — The higher national committee for preparation for the Comprehensive Conference for Peace and Development in Darfur has congratulated the President of the Republic, Gen. Omer Al-Bashir, and the President of Chad, Idris Deby, on the recent signing of N’djamena agreements on Darfur.

Chairman of the committee, Izz-Eddin Al-Sayed, said that the agreement includes cessation of the military operations and paving the way for the delivery of humanitarian aid to the affected citizens. He said that the spirit of the agreement has paved the way for achieving a just and comprehensive peace agreement.

The committee also praised the efforts of the negotiating parties who signed the agreement, especially that the challenges and critical circumstances which are facing the country necessitate elevation of the national interests.

The higher committee for preparation to the Comprehensive Conference on Peace and Development has called on the brothers who are outside Sudan to come and to participate at the conference on Darfur issue.

The committee said that the cessation of military operation in Darfur was appreciated by all the Sudanese people, who have been looking forward for this agreement.

Chairman of the committee reiterated call on all the concerned to participate in the conference, stressing that the committee is keen to enable all the parties and leaderships to express their views and visions at the conference.
