Sudanese ministerial delegation concludes visit to Darfur states

KHARTOUM, April 11, 2004 (SUNA) — A ministerial delegation, headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Mustafa Osman Ismail and comprises Justice Minister Ali Muhammad Osman Yasin, concluded Saturday evening a three-day tour of Darfur states, accompanied by representatives of international organizations and Western embassies in Khartoum.

Dr Ismail said in a press statement at the conclusion of the tour at Neyala town, capital of South Darfur State, that the visit gave a clear picture to the situations in Darfur, adding that the situations need support from the central government as the governments of Darfur states could not meet alone the humanitarian, security and political requirements.

He added that the support of the international community is also needed as the rainy season is approaching, a matter that calls for urgent work, specially that there are thousands of displaced who are in need of shelter, food, water and medicines besides the rehabilitation of the infrastructures such as schools and health institutions.

The ministerial delegation held meetings with the governments of the three states of Darfur and got acquainted with the security and humanitarian situations, where the delegation promised to tackle all problems to help normalization of the situation.

The delegation also inspected the situations of the displaced and the refugees who returned from Chad, where the delegation promised to give their problems utmost concern by the central government and to direct a message to the international community and the international organizations to contribute to the efforts of normalization of the situation.
