Darfur ex-rebel leader compares JEM to Nazis

September 20, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudanese senior presidential assistant Minni Arcua Minnawi lashed out at Darfur Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) describing it as having a ‘Nazi’ and ‘Fascist’ ideology.

In an interview with the London based Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper Minnawi said that JEM wants to dominate and control all other Darfur groups.

“This can never be a way for a revolutionary movement ever. There are indications from the actions and conduct of JEM in Darfur that confirm that if they were to come to power they will exterminate people,” Minnawi said.

“We also see that the ideology of JEM became Nazi and Fascist. This is not just my position but that of most Darfuris who suffered from its conduct” he added.

Minnawi is a leader of a faction of Sudan Liberation of Movement (SLM), the major Darfur rebel movement to sign a peace agreement with Khartoum.

His forces have clashed last February with JEM in his stronghold town of Muhajriya. He accused JEM of disrupting the livelihood of its residents.

However, despite being sworn in as a presidential assistant, his role has been largely marginalized and he held that the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) has reneged on its obligations under the terms of the Darfur Peace Agreement (DPA) signed in May 2006.

Minnawi defended the DPA, which was a target of criticism of other rebel groups but said that there is “room for discussion but not for annulling it”.

He said that what was implemented in the DPA “is not enough,” adding that it will feed positions of the non-signatories.

The Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) leader said that the status of Darfur as one region versus three states should be decided in a referendum among Darfuris. The NCP has rejected making Darfur one state.

Some observers say that the ruling party is concerned about the weight Darfur poses in any elections.

Minnawi is currently on a visit to Cairo for talks with Egyptian and Arab League officials.

The Sudanese official is said to have complained that Arab aid to Darfur is used by the NCP for political propaganda.

There is no genocide in Darfur and sooner the truth will come out and the NCP will be proven to be innocent. These Chadian gypsies have killed tens of thousands of Darfuris because they’re Zaghawa criminals, similar to what the Dinka SPLA did to the non dinka tribes.

I’m glad people are starting to wake up to the realities and I’m actually starting to feel sorry for President Bashir as to how he can deal with so much pressure when we all know he’s doing the right thing.

Can you just shut up. Who is going to listen to little guy like you? Where is your Darfur Peace Agreement? It is ridiculous for someone who has failed the people of Darfur by accepting the offers of the real Nazis to blame those who are fighting against the rapists and genocidal regime, which has shed so much blood of Darfuris. JEM will get a better deal for Darfur than you did.

Little boy Minni Mannawi, i think JEM should give you the same bubble that khartoum regim has given you in 2006.

so it will help them to see cleaarly the future of their vulernable people in Suadn deser, while you will be playing with your bubble.

I think the right person should buy that for you should be Abdel-Wahid Alnor chairman of SLP, because this person has very clear positin regarding Darfur case.

The Movement of Hassan Al-Turabi which is supervised by Khalil Ibrahaim may joint NCP in Khartoum unexpectanly.
