Sudanese and Chadian ONGs agree to repatriate refugees to Darfur

KHARTOUM, April 13, 2004 (SUNA) — Darfur Voluntary Organizations’ Network and voluntary organizations in Chad have signed a joint work agreement for the repatriation of refugees and displaced citizens to around 150 villages in Darfur states, said the Secretary General of Darfur Voluntary Organization’s Network, Hassan Bargo.

At a briefing Tuesday at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs for the national and foreign humanitarian aid organizations on the situation in Darfur, Bargo said that the Network plans to establish model villages at the area which extends from Bahay village in the north till Um-Dafog village in the south in Darfur area.

He called on the voluntary organizations to support the implementation of this project.

Bargo shed light on the tragic conditions of the Sudanese refugees of Darfur in Chad, referring to shortcoming of relief organizations toward these refugees.

Meanwhile, representative of the Zakat Chamber announced that it has assigned two million dollars for supporting the relief programmes in Darfur throughout a period of three years.

He said that a plan will be implemented by the Zakat Chamber as of today (Tuesday) for staging six planes loaded with relief materials, clothes and shelter items for the affected citizens in Darfur.

Representatives of the organizations have stressed the importance of coordination between the organizations which are operating in field of humanitarian aid as well as establishment of an operation office to supervise the delivery of humanitarian aid to the affected citizens in Darfur.

The Humanitarian Aid Commissioner, Dr. Sulaf-Eddin Salih, affirmed the importance of coordination at the humanitarian aid field.
