Abyei chief administrator pledges to fight corruption

By Ngor Arol Garang

October 12, 2009 (ABYEI) — The Abyei Chief Administrator, Brigadier Arop Mayak Monytoc, has on Saturday 10, said not ready to drive a vehicle with reverse gear on corruption.

“If we have successfully managed to bring peace after two decades of war, why not put collective acts to also bring good governance to this country even if it mean taking us similar years,” he commented.

The Chief administrator, who was addressing thousands of audience at Agok Catholic Church, during a yearly celebration of October 10 dedicated to Bishop Daniel Comboni, said the government of Southern Sudan has in recent times trained group of professionals to fight nothing but war on corruption

“Lots of young professionals have been trained outside this specifically on how to combat corruption and administrative malpractices;” he adds saying will not tolerate working with individuals with bad records.

He said this region needs people with clean hearts to rebuild it. We need change and should therefore not accept to be frustrated by these people who don’t want to change. “If you find a problem somewhere, you act, get rid of that person and get another one because they are here now,” he commented

He also added that he has spent much time listening and seeing from many. “My observation is that in the last years in the whole of southern Sudan and Abyei in particular were difficult years because we did not have qualified people, making it difficult too to sack corrupt officials than today,” he said.

These people will be defeated using the alternate who are the young people we have trained, he said adding that corruption should not be allowed to enter our history. He, however, was quick to add that war on corruption cannot be won overnight and would require a protracted struggle.

As Christian, I believe most of you must have read the book of Genesis that focuses on miracles of God particularly when He said: Let there be earth and there was earth. And then on Tuesday, God said: Let the water and the earth separate and they separated. We are not God. That means that we cannot say: Let there be no corruption and there is no corruption. The governments whether new or old are strugglers. Let’s struggle together, he stressed.
