Kenya denies killing of 16 troops by Sudanese tribesmen

October 18, 2009 (JUBA) — Kenya has denied reports about 16 security force members killed by Sudanese tribesmen in the border area on Saturday.

Kuol Deim Kuol, SPLA spokesperson said today armed tribesmen from Toposa tribe, who live in the border area between the two countries, killed 16 Kenyan troops during an attack on their barracks in Nadapal on Thursday.

Reacting to the statement, Kenyan army denied the killing of its troops saying said all Kenyan troops along the border are safe and that at no time have they come under any attack.

“We wish to categorically state that we have not had even a single incident of shooting involving our soldiers at that said common border. The information which is being dispatched by one of the international media houses is inaccurate, baseless and unfounded.” Said a statement signed by Army spokesman Bogita Ongeri.

The Toposa who are based in eastern Equatoria near Sudan-Kenya border, have been living and grazing their animals on the Kenyan side of the border for some time. They opposed the establishment of a Kenyan border position in the area.

They are also accused of being involved in arms trafficking into Ugandan territory. Last July the Ugandan army killed some eight Sudanese tribesmen saying they were trafficking in small arms.

    Oshit

I agree with the Kenyan ministry of interior that this is a fabricated news in order to stare up conflict between south Sudan and Kenya, but we and Kenyan have close ties that cannot be broken by lies in media. Skye wheeler in Juba should be questioned by the spla security and also by spokes man as to why she quoted him kuol deim in Reuters as being the sources of this information that has now been denied by tht Kenyan side, because Skye wheeler is playing with fire trying to make Kuol deim look like a lair in the eyes of the world. you see this is how most conflict is created through spreading rumours in media.
