Call on Government to Release all Detainees
SHRO-Cairo is gravely concerned for continuous detention of many participants in the rally urging the National Assembly to endorse democratic laws on security and other critical issues this morning, Monday December the 7th, 2009, in Khartoum.
Reliable sources indicated that SPLM Secretary General Pagan Amum and Parliamentarian Yasir Arman were released. Violently assaulted by police, Mr.Arman has been placed in hospital for medical treatment. Other detainees, including female demonstrators were severely hurt by police assaults.
The Organization condemns the Government in the strongest terms possible for the unlawful arrests, tortures, and detention the arrestees experienced in the peaceful rally as well as under the police custody. SHRO-Cairo urge the authorities to release immediately the following detainees who have not been yet released from unlawful detention:
