Former US President Carter arrives in Sudan

February 8, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – The former US president, Jimmy Carter, arrived in Khartoum on Monday on a four-day visit to Sudan, heading a delegation of the Carter Center, which is monitoring the elections process in the country.

In a statement before the visit, the Carter Center touted the tour as way for Carter to personally appeal for the eradication of Guinea Worm disease. The Center has helped reduce the incidence of this disease in Sudan from 118,578 cases in 1996 to a provisionally estimated 2,760 reported cases in 2009. The statement added that Carter would “urge peace and stability in the nation as it prepares for its first multi-party elections in 24 years in April.”

The official Sudan News Agency (SUNA) indicated that the visit includes a meeting with President Omar Al Bashir, the federal Minister of Health, besides the National Elections Commission.

The State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Al-Samanni Al-Wassila, received Carter at the airport. He said that Carter and the accompanying delegation will pay inspection visit to the projects being implemented by the center in Sudan, according to SUNA.

The Carter Center delegation will also meet with officials in Juba.

“President Carter and Carter Center believe that with continued hard work and dedication, Guinea worm disease will soon become the second disease eradicated from Earth—after smallpox—and the first to be eradicated without using a vaccine or medicine. Insecurity in Sudan is the biggest threat to achieving this historic goal. Since its inception, the international Guinea worm eradication campaign has faced and overcome many challenges. Sudan has made a lot of progress, but efforts need to be intensified and peace maintained,” said the Center.

Guinea Worm disease is contracted when people ingest drinking water from stagnant sources containing microscopic, infective Guinea worm larvae. After a year of incubation, the female Guinea worm–which can grow up to 1 meter long–creates an agonizingly painful lesion on the skin and slowly emerges from the body over a period of several weeks. The contamination cycle begins again when victims, seeking relief from the burning sensation caused by the emerging Guinea worm, immerse their limbs in sources of drinking water.

Mr. Carter your presence in Sudan at this critical time is vital, Because these high ranking criminals like the DINKAS are planning to rig elections or resort to war, please keep an eye on these animals we have suffered from during the last 21 years.
Dinkas are crucks and needed to be wiped out of the surface of the world.

Some even do involve themselves in buying the voters cards. Because many of the dinkas have approached me to buy my voters card but i said sorry animals i will keep my card and give my vote to the peace maker H.E Bashir

    Shame on the Dinkas. Animals

    Jimmy Carter.

I thank you and all others U.S. Delegation went to Sudan. Yes, women in Southern Sudan particular are suffering in many cases as a matter of fact that, Southern Sudan have been under develoment for many years and it is true that, it was done intentional by Sudan Regime government, but what goes around still will come around. Omar al Bashir have done more severly damaging the whole Southern Sudan land leaving disases uncontrolable among Southern Sudanese people and I think the judgement day for Omar al Bashir is coming soon. I strongly belief most Southerners Sudanese did appreciately the U.S. Commitment to peace effort even though the Obama new administration seem to go too slow when it come to Sudan’s indictment case, this is a case that done correctly and it need action against Sudan’s government. The ICC Judges have done outstanding job and our eyes are still looking for U.S.To help us out because this is real matter to all Sudanese people. For U.S. Former president, I would like to say keep up your commitment and God will pay you back for helping those suffering in disases in there Southern Sudan.
