SPLM-DC claims S. Sudan army seizes elections materials

February 19, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – The Khartoum-based Information Department of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – Democratic Change (SPLM-DC) claimed that today the South Sudan army in Malakal removed election campaign posters and in Juba Airport seized another load of materials.

SPLM-DC is the party headed by Lam Akol Ajawin, the only challenger to incumbent Salva Kiir Mayardit for the presidency of South Sudan. Akol was swift to back Omar Al-Bashir, head of the National Congress Party (NCP), when he declared his candidacy for president last month.

Today at about 7:00 am in the morning a force of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Malakal moved from the southern sector of the town and was tearing and removing all the posters of the elections campaign of the SPLM-DC, said a statement from the party.
“They were still tearing the posters at the time of writing this press statement. This was happening before the eyes of everybody in town,” said the source.

In reply, the spokesman of the SPLA, Maj.-Gen. Kuol Deim Kuol, said that there are no SPLA forces in Malakal, only a Joint Integrated Unit (JIU) of mixed northern and southern soldiers. He said that headquarters in Juba received no report of tearing posters.

“Tearing election posters in Malakal is a big lie created by what is so-called SPLM-DC,” he said.

Lam Akol’s faction also claimed that at about 9:30 am at Juba Airport, military intelligence of the SPLA from the headquarters of Salva Kiir seized a load of elections materials sent by the headquarters of the SPLM-DC in Khartoum to its office in Juba.

“The person carrying the material, Mr Amjad Angelo, was detained and taken to an unknown destination; we are very concerned for his life,” SPLM-DC stated in its press release.

SPLA’s spokesman said, however, that the SPLM-DC member was found carrying an unlicensed gun. He added that the member was taken to SPLA headquarters for investigation for why he carried the unlicensed gun. He was not tortured or abused and is now in the custody of South Sudan police services, said Deim.

Lam Akol’s SPLM-DC criticizes the ruling party of South Sudan for autocratic methods and its strongly separatist tendency. It has several times before complained of ill treatment of its political agents and supporters.

The party condemned the reported incident and called for the release of the Mr. Angelo. They also appealed to the National Election Commission and UN Mission in Sudan to bring pressure to bear on the SPLM leadership to allow the general election to take place smoothly without hindrance.

Please don’t be used by Salva Kiir and SPLM party for political purpose. That is not why you are there. You are there as our armed forces to safeguard and defend our constitution. but if you are being used for political purpose I fear it would divide our military and the consequences would be unimaginable.

Yes, SPLM-DC leader- Dr Lam Akol should come to the South for compaign instead of meandering in the North. DC’s posters must be tear to pieces in the South because this party is NCP by itself.

Gamiraan, please you need to be precise and concrete because your writing lack lucidity. Your argument is incomprehensible. Please work on clarity and sentence structure.
    Thanks

Caretaker, caretaker, caretaker,……this is the worst code signaling imminent events. Ahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…….History is repeating itself.

The next government will be formed by somebody else. Remember that Garang left a caretaker government.

Greedy Dinka orphans with poor states. You can quack, hiss, meaw and even fart, but the reality will remain true. You are disgrace to South Sudan as the World Bank says.

If it were not because of Nuer oil in their states that feeds you like orphans, you would have abandoned South Sudan and rushed to refugee camps in Kenya and Uganda like you did to Itang during the hunger crisis in Dinkaland.

Where would you get the 8 billion dollars which you are scrambing over shamelessly like greedy orphans if the Nuer states of Unity and Upper Nile do not feed your poor buts.

Shame on you. The good thing is that Ngundeng predicted that your leadership will NEVER smell independence of the South. You end in 2010!!!

Garang died during his caretaker government in 2005 after getting crazy and wanting to cause chaos in the South. God intervened immediately! Do you remember the state caretaker governors during Garang’s death?

Well, Ngundeng doesn’t like the word ’caretaker’ system in the South which makes leaders go crazy. You will see what he will soon do to Kiir during this caretaker governors period. History is repeating itself, fools!!!

You have touched the wrong button, ahahahahaaaaaaaa……..

I am afraid if Dr. Ajawin is still in Khartoum talking nonsense while the compaign has already kicked off in the South. This shows that he is a corward and fear his life in the South because he is not wanted by the Southerners at all. Believe me, he is known as a traitor and a betrayer by anyone in the South; death to him if he ever step on South Sudan soil.
