Kiir urges youth to keep away from political exploitation

March 13, 2010 (JUBA) — Salva Kiir Mayardit, the leader of the ruling party in Juba and its candidate for southern Sudan President has on Saturday; urged youth to stay away from political exploitation saying there are certain circles who want to use them as tools of violence.

The presidential candidate, whose election campaign management team under Dr. Samson Kwaje, conducted door to door campaign today in Juba, also urged stakeholders not to use youths as tools of violence, but empower them.

“Our youth should never be exploited but should be encouraged to maintain strong partnership for sustainable development,” Kiir said calling for the youth to partner with stakeholders and the government to achieve social and economic development.

“As youth, you should rise above political, tribal and religious boundaries in order to contribute to the development of this region. As youths, you should become part of the solutions to the many challenges we are facing,” he said.

However, President Kiir was quick to say youth continue to face challenges that hinder them from realizing their potentials.

Barnaba Marial Benjamin Bill, minister of commerce and industry, who was among other officials at the same door to door electoral campaign conducted in Juba today, also admitted that youth find it difficult to benefit from developmental programmes saying majority of them lacks skills to manage finances.

But Bol Mawien, a business man in Juba disputed lack of skills to manage finance saying access to credit schemes and micro-finance institutions is a night-mare, because micro-finance institutions have stiff conditions, making it impossible for the youth to access finance.

Earlier minister Benjamin affirmed they understand there are more needs to be done to improve the welfare of the youth but government can only do it with assistance from other stakeholders.

“There is need to promote entrepreneurship so that the youth can benefit,” he said urging youth should be ready to partner with stakeholders to contribute to social and economic development.

“We in the government and other stakeholders are keen to look into the issues that prevent youth from taking the centre stage in developing this region,” the minister said.

President Kiir had earlier pledged to meet with youth leaders so that they can dialogue on the many issues he raised in his address.

He said government is committed to resolving the many issues affecting the youth and urged all stakeholders to invest in the youth and put them at the centre stage of social and economic development.

He said his government has taken the lead to partner with them adding he will ask the next parliament to formulate policies and programmes to involve the youth in national development.

He further said southern Sudan government recognizes the fact that youth skills and training are important to enable young people to take up their role in sustainable development and contribute to wealth creation.

Empowering Youth is very powerful thing Mr President!! But what your current government is doing with Youth so far is not so positive Mr President. Most of youths have better skill than some of your ministers Mr President. Most and possibly, all your ministers have 1970 skills. Don’t you think that having those people in your office can caused or resulted in many of the administrative mal-practices being blame on you? Your Ministers do not have current skills needed for 21 century solutions and youth does.

They lacking ethical training, and lets just put aside their skills for the time being. They are they reason why your office is not being respected. Even Mariel Benjimin himself know that he is lacking current skills that is why he is corrupt. I knew he will read this message and will go off his head because your ministers can’t stand slide criticism.

I know, back in Ethiopia, Mayardit, you were our hero, and youth love you. And were educated in your designed. So the claims you made and your Minister put forward is false because most of the youths got technical skills or colleges papers. Youth will take your word as warning because they might be threaten by your ministers powers. Our time will come and we youth will rebuild Sudan, but we have to destroy the existing systems at some point of time.

Salva kiir Mayardit made agreat remarkable issue which is challenging the South at this particular time.

Certainly,a great number of youth are foolishly used by primitive individuals for political agenda. For instance, In Duk Padiet attack, every one found dead after the attack by Nuer were all young Nuer youth, but why Chebetek Mabil- the youth leader used them.? Is that not foolish and primitives ways of explitation of our youth in the South.

I want Splm to arrest those primitives who used our youth for their own used.
I don,t know why SPLM don,t arrest them while they are living in the South Sudan?.

SPLM must work harder with those Chiefs to arrest those ill people because most civilians are now disarmed in most States while those milita are not disarmed in Jonglei, Upper Nile ,and Unity. They should be arrested and jailed for 15 years because they spoiling the youth by causing their death in most cases.

Yes,Some youth have enough skills that they can used in the south Sudan to increase development;therefore, the Goss should looked into that issue to offer them ajob instead of denying them ajob that they can handled. Thanks

Thank mr Kiir to your urges to youth , you’re right some of people are using us as we’re their tools . Conflict may arise because individuals do not understand their responsiblities in our society and it is important that the legal system ensures that everyone in communty is aware of his/her right and responsibilities in order to avoid conflicts developing amongs the youth . In fact mr president we’re standing for you ,we youth of south sudan and we do knowing that some of people in GOSS are using us as tools of violence into this campiagn but its may not be happen to do it so .
    Cheers

DUDE learn to discipline your own people how to behave before you talk about South Sudan in general. Did you know that by the time your talking to the folk, an innocent life has already been gunned down at your original place of birth? starts from in before coming out, go and tell your people to fight the massirye or albinos in Abeyi not fighting against their fellow Southerns. Your cruel management has totally ruined our image and pride. Unwise to jump into national level instead of showing the good bevahiours right from your own boma beside payam. You even prove your premature leaders and arrogant. I recommend that you need to attend political education once a week at your own time. Got to focus on national policies in areas such as security, economy, development and health.

People though you will give a chance to other people, but the way you act now is totally different than before you followed Dr.Garang De Mabior. Be care at this time you are so rely on other people so much that means you are incompebntence leader. That why you wants educated people and keep them a way from the government.

This is now are trying to the youth side. To make them fear or Scare, don’t put in your mind you are the only person who remained in the SPLM hierarchy. My friend President, leadership is something very hard you cann’t borrow other people minds for this very long period. The key word from Salva Kirr here is youth empowerment, this should have been in the forefront and should be properly thought about and put in the forefront of the SPLM strategic vision, to empower south sudan youth, the youth are the future, they are the backbone of the nation in terms of skills, manpower and grassroot support for the government. When kirr wins, he has to set s clear strategic plan for the youth, which will include youth empowerment through economic and educational support, inclusion of qualified youths into key sectors of the government, south sudan has only about 15-10 years to prepare its current youth to be ready to lead the country after the old generation declines, however the empowerment has to start now, there is no need to see foreigners dominate most sectors int he country meanwhile the youth of the country are still well and strong. so Kirr should take this vision very serious in his next time, he needs to form a special committee that will follow some of his ideas , otherwise it will fade away as he become busy and not taken serious, also women empowerment should go side by side with youth empowerment, the next term should be about turning government strategic visions from talk and papers into actions on the ground.
