Sudan and JEM signed two agreements in Doha, a goodwill agreement on February 17, 2009 designed to create a suitable environment for the peace process and a framework agreement on 23 February defining the issues to be negotiated between the two parties including a truce.

However, the two parties failed to reach a peace deal on March 15 as scheduled in the framework agreement and did not finalize the modalities of a ceasefire included in the 23 February accord.

Following his return to the Sudanese capital form Doha on Saturday, Amin Hassan Omer, top negotiator of government delegation told the pro-ruling National Congress Party media outlet SMC that they are studying the process engaged in Doha with JEM rebels adding no progress has been realized since February 23.

JEM is still freezing negotiations and the last meeting between the two parties took place after February 23, adding the rebel group is still suspending negotiations and the last meeting with was about to discuss the implementation of framework deal.

He also said there is no indication for a possible breakthrough in the current stalemate even after the arrival of its chairman Khlil Ibrahim who is in Doha since two days.

Since the signing of the framework accord, the peace talks are stalled due to the inclusion of the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) in the Doha peace process. JEM rebels say the NCP dominant government intends to appoint the head of the later group El-Tijani El-Siss as vice-president.

So, the rebel movement refused all the positions proposed by Khartoum which included presidential assistant and presidential adviser, but not a vice presidency.

JEM also said peace is not a viable unless elections are delayed for more preparations to allow Darfur people to participate in the elections.

Sudan considering peace talks with JEM rebels
Great thanks to leaders of Darfur and Sudan government.

Am extremely excited to hear that there is peace going on between Sudan government and Darfur rebel groups. But for my annoyement, that peace which is on process to be signed is the one that which leads our nation to one.Still more, Bashir is just beating around the bush because he ever dodge people not to come up with good solution about the setbacks (Problems) which is facing people of Darfur and the rest of their neighbouring States.

I will be very happy if the peace become stable.

    Thanks

JEM and SLM should unite under one umbrella then face this Arabs on the negotiating table, going to negotiate while divided will weaken the Darfur position and just cause, it is logically to do that.
