Jonglei state implicated in exporting fake voting slips

April 6, 2010 (JUBA) – The Juba-based Southern Sudan High Committee overseeing the electoral process in the region has accused Jonglei and Upper Nile states of exporting and distributing fake voting slips among the populace.

In a statement issued over Southern Sudan TV on Monday, the office of the Committee in Juba said a number of people were arrested in Malakal, Upper Nile state, as they were distributing voting slips originating from Bor in Jonglei state.

Up to 455 voting slips imported from Jonglei state were found in possession of the men arrested in Malakal and many more were expected to have already found themselves among the population.

Southern Sudan High Committee said an investigation would be carried out into the source of the fake voting slips, warning that the culprits might face up to two years of imprisonment.

Sudan’s general election is only six days away amidst fears of large scale of fraud in the process.

Opposition parties earlier accused the National Elections Commission (NEC) of allowing the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) to violate the electoral process.

Hundreds of thousands of voters’ names are believed to have disappeared from the register list while fake names are believed to have been re-inserted, causing mismatch between hand written names and those in the electronic data.

Voting stations in the country are also reduced by half the number previously suggested. Ballot papers for executive elections were printed by NCP’s controlled currency printing mint inside Khartoum when they were supposed to be printed outside the country as previously thought.

The National Elections Commission, chaired by Abel Alier, has however expressed its satisfaction to the electoral process, saying the nation was ready for the exercise as scheduled for Sunday, April 11.

    Wow!

Jonglei is the center of manifacturing corruption. Could Abel Alier have a hand in taking that printing machine from Khartoum to Bor to print fake voting slips?

This is very serious because, who knows, Jonglei’s printing industry might have already printed hundreds of thousands of such fake elections slips and supplied them to many states in the South.

Kuol Manyang wants to win by all means and cannot miss to corrupt the process through the help of NCP’s Abel Alier. Juba’s NEC, put him to prison for two years!!!

Please be intellectuals when publishing a report for public consumption.
Why do you accuse states? Have you evidence that these fake slips were exported by the state or individuals?
Something done by state means something done by state government; is that what you mean?

    please observe public office ethics.

Don ‘t you know that accusing entities like states or tribes is divisive and can cause hatrate among people?
Or do you aim to encourage that?
    Please watch your words.
