SPLM’s Agar says he is a unionist, warns against secessionist tendencies

May 3, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — The governor of the Blue Nile State, Malik Agar today voiced his support to the unity of Sudan ahead of the 2011 referendum in the semi-autonomous region of the South to decide on whether they want to create their own state or remain united with the North.

Following the swearing-in ceremony of governors today, Agar told reporters that he would dedicate all the resources at his disposal to work for the Sudan’s unity adding that the realization of this goal is the responsibility of all people in the North and South Sudan.

Sudan official news agency (SUNA) quoted Agar, who is a senior figure in Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM), as warning against some secessionist sentiments working on separating the South from the North, calling this trend “a serious threat to the security and stability of the Sudan and would lead to splitting the country”

Agar pointed out that people must examine the disadvantages of South Sudan secession and then work on convincing the people about that and urged all parties to consider “the painful consequences of separation”.

It is widely expected that Southerners emerging bitter after two decades of civil war that claimed 2 million lives mostly through hunger and disease.

Last week, SPLM chairman Salva Kiir said that unity of Sudan would make it a strong nation but blamed the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) for not making that choice to Southerners.

Work has now begun on a number of post-referendum issues including the demarcation of the North-South border.

Politics work appropriately when you expressed leadership styles in deligent manner. Yes, governor malik Agar had said it clearly that the North are the one who are encouraging the south to be separated because they seriously fail to under the interest of South Sudanese for decades.

We need to adapted the leadership style of not solving stuffs through loud speech rather than humble ways though we are matching to the independent of South Sudan. Dear Southerners, 2011 is our time so that we can choose our destiny. South Sudan will get its independent through the efforts of South Sudanese not only through the speeches of our leaders.
    Thanks

Look at how southerners like Malik Agar issueing some irrelivant statement withouting studying the courses for the war in sudan that took nearly 3 decades.
he is the kind of southern leadership that traded on us during the Addis-ababa agreement during the Anya nya 1 war and conntinues to work hand in hands with those of Joseph Lagu who is not Ashame to come to Junub telling us to vote for AL Bashir as the next president of sudan.
if malik Agar think the Nuba people and the blue Nile people are comfortable with the Bashir system of government let him lobby for them to remain under the Arabs york, but we southerners will never be decieved by personalities like them any more.
he sould have to stop this statement for the effect of today otherwise, we have no confident in him and the SPLM leadership in the North who want us to follow their own principles yet it is southerners who are suffering up todate.

Mr Malik Agar, that is good to know that you are unionist. there are also some other unionist inside SPLM such as pagan Amum, Yasir Saeid Arman, and others

it is not a secret that the tide and current is scurling toward total independent from the north. you was in the Spla for long time and contribute to the movement greatly, the people of south understand your grievances with the north and that was why you jointed movement. but the people of south will mostly opt for separation and independent from the north.

Good luck with the union with the north, it will be hard because we know their nature since the colonial period and therafter.

If after indenedent of south you request our help, we will be more than happy to aid you in both blue nile and Nuba mts.

I was pretty shocked to have read what Malik Agar said, if the people were aiming for unity of Sudan then why did we fought for two decades and shed our blood because of the freedom? We fought the war because there were clear injustices system in Sudan, the ridicule Islam progress with it ideology of favoring Islam only by excluding Southerners and, even Blue Nile’s people were not included in the society in every structure. The fact sheria law brought infinity of civil war between South and North and fact was that many other region of Sudan were also marginalized by oppressive government in the Khartoum this gave Blue Nile and Nuba Mountains to join the South’s liberation movement.

Blue Nile, Nuba Mountain and South Sudan were all fighting against system in entire country, so I’m still wondering if there are any changes that let Mr. Malik Agar spoke in that manner?? I might be wrong in my own interpretation of his ceremony speech, but I did find it hard to swallow and digest what he mean when warning South Succession. Mr. shouldn’t allow such unacceptable speech that really hurt the citizens of South Sudan and indeed the people of Blue Nile who had suffered more harsh condition than counterpart Southerners.
The South will be independent in just blink an eye because the full power is under it citizens to determine whether they would love being a “second class citizens in Sudan”, this was ever great quotes our late leader had said. Definitely, no one will ever vote for unity because the girl called unity is so ugly to attract people. Making that girl beauty is not possible because she was born in such way; she must not be marriage by Southerners, but by Blue Nile if Agar loves ugly ladies. I’m not sounding chicky here, but at this defining moment, the Southerners are more determine than any time in history of Sudan, can anyone mess with our choice, would absolutely be consequences.
I would ask all Southerners to divorce their wife North Sudan and get re-marriage by Eastern African countries because we geographical located, biology relatives, sharing the same religion and cultural identity.
No more wasting time with barbaric state. Amen!!!!!!!

The choice of unity or separation belongs to the people of Southern Sudan and they are the one who will choose whatever they want in January, 2011. Everyone can give their opinion and advise but Southerners will be the one to choose and they should not be misled by turncoat with the tried and true scare tactic. IN fact, it is more scary to remain under the artificial unity of the Islamic Fundamentalist Regime of the National Congress party.

Mr. Agar, I respect your opinion but I am sorry that it would not be possible at this point to talk about unity in a country where religious fanatics rule the day. The NIf party wants a unity that leaves others in poverty while those who enjoy the privileges of the state house in Khartoum remain in those palaces forever. I’ve nothing to gain from the unity of Sudan but humiliation under the tyrany of the horrible Islamic laws. So I am going to vote “Yes” for an independent South Sudan. We can’t accept any more our mothers and sisters being lashed and raped in police stations in Khartoum for wearing .pants. We’ve so far paid hefty prices for this referendun and I don’t think we can afford to say, “No” to our freedom.

well, i think president Salva kiir, needs to show us the direction people should go. i believe if unity succeeded over seperation, southern sudanese will definetly accept being third and fourth class citizen, not secound class, because those other marginalized muslems will be swift into secound to make them look linear to their Arab muslems. please south sudanese, for how long shall ethiopia keep accepting us. if we miss this chance, ethiopia, kenya, and uganda, not accept any single southern sudanese being a woman, child, dog, or man to cross into their bordering territories for hiding. be careful malik agar, you are chewing lump of red hot charcoal. don’t touch that subject again. i and the rest of my friends disowned and banned from splm from today onward. it is time now for kiir to consider reshufling start from the immediate splm senior officers. there is conpiracy going on between splm officers senior unionist and us the seperatist. i have already listed good number of fellow splm seniors who deserve nothing else than immediate retiring. i will reveal their names next week.

The funny thing is “separation of South sudan from the north is death to the north, but the south is not allowed by the north to safe the whole country from the mess it is now in. All southerners know that southern sudan is the banking account of the north and its separation will not be perfect without killing the account holder first.

Dear Malik Agar,The Seperation of the South is not a drainage of the sea or the Ocean.the seperation also is not a responsibility of you the leaders of SPLM or any other politician, It is a sole responsibility of we south Sudanese to cast our vote for seperation for our own future because sine the independence of the Sudan,we southerner had never be in peace as you can witness it with lack of infastructure and so many others thing.Marginalization of the people South Sudan is known by Southerners themseves and wolrd wide and therefore you should also look into your own people who are also marginalised.
Also there will be no unity when there is cultural differences,Racial differences, language differences, social differences and to make it worst the application of Shari’a Law which could not favor all the Southerners.
Therefore I call upon you and others leaders who delivered such speech to avoid it and leave Southerners alone to decided on their future prospects.

    Hey Governor-elect Malik Agar

Are you dreaming of unionist or you are meaning it?.you think that the popularities you are elects in would be the same since you can confessed of returning people into slaveries lives. Please His Exellecency, withdraw your statement or else the State Assembly will impeach you through your misleading of southern sudan.

Apologies to people of Southern Sudan who voted you into leadership,we are sorry to hear from you though it is not your professional language, then it is a confessing information.

The SPLM popularities that have led you into a victory should not be a point of proudly that Iam a popular politician at which you can mislead people, unacceptable’.
You will not expect the same popularity during your unionist campaigns,i think you are not alone in that statement.

I think Governor Mailk Agar does’t get it. He should leave the South alone to decide it’s future or join the South in Independent. Anyone who is against the Independent of the South is an enemy of the South.
