Kiir casts doubts on negotiations with renegade general

May 16, 2010 (JUBA) – Salva Kiir Mayardit, South Sudan President-elect, has casted doubt on GOSS willingness to negotiate with George Athor Deng, the defeated Jonglei State gubernatorial candidate in April elections.

Southern_Sudanese_President-3.jpgMany voices in southern Sudan called on the regional government to seek peaceful means to end the rebellion of General Athor in order to preserve peace and security in the semi-autonomous region which will hold a referendum on self determination next January.

The UN Mission in Sudan proposed to broker a negotiated settlement to the conflict. Athor welcomed the move but Southern Sudan government pledged to make further consultations and review the situation before to give its final decision to the UN body.

Speaking during the 27th Anniversary of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) in Juba on Sunday, Salva Kiir denounced Athor decision to address his grievances through violence.

Salva Kiir said no amount of threats can force him to accept war but pledged to defend security of civilians. He cited several attempts to return the country to war including Malakal incidents were SPLA had been attacked by militias groups affiliated to Khartoum “but we say no to war. Yes to peace,” he repeated.

Commenting on George Athor’s activities after wallowing to rebellion with SPLA after his defeat in Jonglei elections last month, Kiir said “What brother (George) Athor is doing is not good.”

President Kiir, however, added that doors are open for Mr. Athor should he cease hostilities and return to the SPLA.

It remains unclear whether the Government of Southern Sudan will engage in talks or continue military action to quell insecurity in Jonglei which witnessed last year a series of cattle raids and tribal attacks.

George Athor Deng, a former deputy chief of Staff in South Sudan army, has repeatedly called for peace talks to end clashes between his forces and regional army and the dissolution of the recently elected government of Southern Sudan. Mr. Athor is also demanding resignation of Jonglei Governor-elect Kuol Manyang Juuk alongside threats to attack Bor town, the state capital.

During the May 16th celebration here in Juba, Salva Kiir vowed that civilians’ safety and transformation of SPLA are the SPLM focus in the next term office besides ensuring successful conduct of January referendum.

May 16, 1983 is the day SPLM/A started it a war which ended with 2005 peace accord against Khartoum government in Bor. The celebration today in Juba was marked with troops match and display of military artilleries. President Kiir Mayardit first paid a visit to late SPLM founder John Garang graveyard where he laid a wreath.

The May 16 celebrations are taking place across Sudanese town towns today.

Negotiation should be given first priority, crushing him with his soldiers would be very stupid and naive just like we are forgetting their contribution in the liberation struggle. But the demand Renegate General Athor put is impossible to meet. MAUMAU.

The President of South Sudan Salva Kiir, Pgan Amum, James Hoth Mai, Taban Deng Gai and Kuol Manyang must stepdown for the sake of peace in the counrty, or this counrty gonna run red with blood in just a matter of time because of these criminal guys who run SPLA/ SPLM party.

I think at this movement the forrmer first lady Nyadeng Garang whose her husband a founder of this SPLA/SPLM party , is better than them. Supposed Nyadeng Garang is the President of South Sudan, she can not steal the election from independent candidates who won the election like Salva Kiir and Pagan Amum in favor of her party candidates.
I know her very well she can not do it for the sake of peace in the country.

Anyway refusal to negotiate with LT. General George Athor Deng, will result in capuring of Bor town and Juba by LT. General Athor Deng in just a matter of time.

According to Prophert NgunDeng, LT. General George Athor Deng will capture Bor town. Then, the supporters of LT. General George Athor Deng will start fighting with SPLA militias forces within Juba and Salva Kiir, Pagan Amum will be the first SPLA/SPLM leaders confirm captured by LT. General George Athor Deng supporters forces who live in Juba.

Afterall, LT. General George Athor Deng will declare himself as the President of South Sudan. Finally, all the parties will joint him and form a new party that will take South Sudan into independent (SSIM/SSIMA). You will not believe it untill it happen.

    Thanks
I am Controller with the Prophert.

    Dear sir/madam,
Happy May 16 across Sudan and elsewhere! I thank all the Generals in the South who gave Kiir Kuethpiny/Mayardit the pressure to speak out about the concern which they have with their brother General Athor and the rest of Generals who are still covering their heads in blankets in south. It is a great idea to highlight what is facing the country/south as president so that you can be respected. I think nobody dislikes peace, unite, and May 16 including General Athor, but as a part of nation,or parties everybody needs to have opened choice where you can choose what is the best for you and folks rather dispatching him/her that cause other lives you went through. What cause General Athor to leave was the threaten evil which was given by his running mate, Kuol when he sent the army to arrest him,Mr.president Kiir Mayardit and I believe he estated to you since his departure. General Athor loves peace for all citizens as you do,too and you all acrossed since the began of movement in 83. Hopefully,God will bring you together and have a dinner with him and all general. Peace is my food since I lost a lot in civil war and let hope for new window. Thank you Kiir and make it quickly to talk to your brother without doing what Mr. Kuol did,or another Kuol said. God bless all.

hello readers of this artical, to you those who may advice Mr President salva you must to let him know that this time is not really a time of clanism, friendship and business or selfintest, i had been thinking that there will be some changes in your mind to tell truth, to your people of Southernese as a leader of truth Africa Nations.?

Mr President are you really aleader of Southern Sudan or just symbole image of human being if you,re assumed as aleader for all the Nations of Southern sudan you must to give them their choices and the equalities of human rights as well as those who win the general election of April-11-2010 (especially independances) forexample in Unity State Bentiu the winner in governorship not really our nepew (Taban Deng Gai) Mr Taban was a number three interm of winner, for governorship,

fact must be toll the first winner was Angelino Jany Teny, but because of your friendship through moneyfriend you let (Taban) call himself as the elected governor of Unity State Bentiu and you didn’t say any word, as well as the samething with George Athor Deng, in Jonglei State?

Mr President where is your leadership equality as aleader, be careful mr President Athor has rights to killing those who had been rolling his votes to kuol Manyang Juuk, but in other ways we may convience him in a good way not as the way you had been addressing? (Mr Salva kiir) how long you want to learn the leadership loo kiir,
see, look at through Pagan Amum the way he talks in the media is not like you he was talking xactelly a real Son of Southern Sudan who don’t mind about money I appreciated his speeches as aman of man like me Simon R kulea

I think Athor needs to know that he has to take the crimes he has committed seriously. His actions against the people of South Sudan demand a serious counselling. If somebody advises him, that adviser has a lot to do to let his/her client know that things are not going to be as cozy as they may seem to Athor.

There will be accountability involved here. You can’t just get out and come in as you wish. There are going to be so many questions to be answered here. Athor needs to know this. If GOSS is not going to ask Athor to answer those questions, We the poeple of South Sudan will demand those answers.
