Warrap swears in governor-elect amid hopes of development

May 25, 2010 (TURALEI) — Residents and political leaders from southern state of Warrap have on Tuesday, 25, in huge number, attended gubernatorial swearing in ceremony of Nyandeng Malek Deliech as new governor of the state, amid hopes of developmental plans from the new female administration.

The political event attended by most senior government officials and diplomats from the area and beyond was held at 11 o’clock, Sudan local time at Kwajok, Capital of Warrap State. This happened following taking oath of members of the state legislative Assembly on Wednesday 19. Makuac Ngongdit, an intellectual from the area who also works as information officer at the State SPLM secretariat, said Madot Dut Deng was elected new speaker of the parliament while Kiir Madut Makuer as his deputy speaker.

Sworn in by Justice Majok Dau in the company of senior regional court judge, Malek Riing, Speaker Madot reportedly pledged better working relationship with state executive organs and judiciary describing relationship of the three organs of government as prerequisite to peace, stability and development in the area.

Warrap State Legislative Assembly previously witnessed impeachment of the speaker who accused former Governor Tor Deng Mawien to have incited members of the parliament to impeach him. A charge governor Tor denied and challenged speaker to produce evidence implicating him.

Addressing the ceremony, governor Nyandeng briefly pledged to implement developmental plans outlined in her campaign programs saying her administration would strive to implement electoral campaign proposals.

“I request that we all read developmental proposals on electoral campaign. This document is the basis of developmental initiatives as we have previously shared them with all in our campaign programs,” Governor Nyandeng told the gathering.

During elections campaign, governor Nyandeng pledged to keep security, education, agriculture, roads amongst as top priority of her administration if elected. She also vowed to improve teachers’ living standard by revising their grading in line with academic standard of each teacher in tertiary institutions in the state.

She also promised to give reconciliation initiative among communities as alternative to settling cattle related disputes and theft.
