June 9, 2010 (TURALEI) — A senior official from the SPLM has on Wednesday hinted at trading the ministry of foreign affairs with the ministries of energy and international cooperation with the ruling National Congress Party.

This came following a recent trip in which the First Vice -President of Sudan and the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, discussed the modalities of post election power-sharing allocations between the two peace partners with the NCP.

In Khartoum, NCP sources said the new government would be announced with 48 hours; adding the SPLM would get nine ministries including oil ministry instead of foreign affairs.

The opposition Democratic Unionist Party seemingly refuses to participate in the first post elections government. However he suggested to take part in the new cabinet under the name of National Democratic Alliance, an opposition umbrella chaired by the DUP leader Mohamed Osman Al-Mirghani.

Michael Makuei Lueth, a senior member of the southern ruling party said a high level committee representing the SPLM is discussing a proposal on how the two parties can share power.

He added that discussions over these suggestions are still ongoing but a consensus over suggestions to exchange the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Ministry of International Cooperation and the Ministry of Energy is possible. The committee is still studying these suggestions and is consulting with the leadership of the SPLM.

The SPLM secretary for political affairs and syndicated organizations in the southern sector, Achuil Malith Banggol, confirmed that discussions over suggestions of how to share power between the two parties are underway.

He said these discussions are looking at how to share power between the NCP and the SPLM.

Last week, the leadership of the two peace partners reached a consensus on forming a government of national unity. This agreement gives the NCP three ministerial positions in the regional government of Southern Sudan and 10 ministries in the governments of the 10 states of the south.

The NCP, on the other hand, will allocate to the south all the ministries it occupied in the last five years except the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The latter is however speculated to have been split into three by the NCP: Oil and Petroleum, Electricity and Mining and that the SPLM will go with the ministries of Oil & Petroleum and International Cooperation while the mining will remain with the NCP.

This is another fantastic step in the power sharing government. Ministry of International Cooperation and the Ministry of Energy has been the point of contention between GoSS and NCP, its a welcome trade. Do it so that we know how much exactly the oil is earning Sudan. NCP and Chinese have been keeping part of the record secret, this time, the SPLM will dig out the hidden figures. MAUMAU.

Giving Minster of Energy to GOSS is a significant move because GOSS has no idea about how many barrels produce per day. They always take whatever NCP/GOS gives. Besides, Nine Ministers could change many things that could be beneficial to South in six months if they are knowledgeable persons in their ministries.

    Regards!
