June 11, 2010 (JUBA) — The United States Agency for International Development, USAID, has given 6 vehicles worth $184,456 million to the Government of South Sudan(GOSS) for the supervision of road projects under construction.
The 6 vehicles given to the GOSS will be further distributed to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure in Unity, Upper Nile, Warrap, Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Western Bahr el Ghazal and Central Equatoria States.
Jacob Marial, the Director-General of Roads and Bridges in South Sudan, appreciated the donation of the vehicles saying that they will serve a very important mission in the road monitoring system.
“These vehicles will fill an important gap in the Sudan road monitoring system. Reliable emergency transportation is crucial for directors and road supervisors, especially in states with deplorable road complications; and will provide access to road facilities in a timely fashion,” said Marial.
He added that road supervisors depend on vehicles to effectively manage and support the maintenance of roads, a vital aspect in the development of Southern Sudan.
In an official press statement obtained by Sudan Tribune, Marial also said that the event coincides with the completion of a 10-week training course for 17 new Southern Sudanese labour-based contractors at the Kenya Institute of Highways in Kenya.
The contractors’ training covers classroom and practical exercises in management and technical studies for implementing road improvements and maintenance in all 10 states.
After the completion of the course, the contractors will be given small mechanized equipment to support their efforts and will be awarded small training contracts, which will be monitored and evaluated by USAID partner site engineers in their local areas. These companies will join forces with the previously trained 13 labor-based contractors to ensure that investments in infrastructure are maintained.
The Caretaker-Minister of Transport and Roads in the GOSS, Anthony Makana and USAID/Sudan Mission Deputy Director, Doug Arbuckle will officiate the graduation function of the road contractors at the Ministry of Transport and Roads’ Yei Road Facility in Juba.
Mr. Arbuckle will represent USAID in the handing-over of six new vehicles to the GOSS’s Ministry of Transport and Roads in six states.
The vehicles expected to be given on Monday 14 are funded through USAID’s Capacity-Building Program/ Sudan Infrastructure Services Project (SISP).
SISP is currently supporting the construction of the 192 km-long Juba-Nimule road.

let me help you that those 6 cars donated are worth that among($ 184,456). USAI did not donate money,they gave away six cars worth about $ 184,456 according to the report. Yes, the writer means it.

Sudan-tribune is getting worse for reporting incorrect information without proper verification. Sometimes you would read articles without authors or the source of origin. I swear Worldwide 6 vehicles will never cost $ 184,456 million. Even the the World most expensive cars such as Ferrari. 6 of them does not cost U$184 million. Crap………!
